Auntie Peanut Report 19 Apr 2004 21:00

Hello all I just wonder if there are any others like me with their computer under the stairs? When we moved into our house over forty years ago, we found the pantry (or larder) to be off the living room of all places. So after we were settled, the pantry door came off and was made into an archway by Tom. The pantry then became a bar with coloured lights reflecting in the copper coloured small square mirrors with which we covered the little window. The days of our huge parties now being a thing of the past (drink/driving etc) Tom has converted the said pantry into an office for me, and I have all my ancestors, family and friends' and pets' pictures on the walls. I love it to bits. Norah

When I saw the title of this thread I thought I'd reply - no one else could possibly have their computer under the stairs like me. But you do. I'm sitting at it now. Computer in understair cupboard - or my "office" - uncomfortable folding chair half and half through the door. I am waiting to move house after years of sharing my 2 bed 11.8foot wide house with hubby, 2 kids, and 4 large black cats. I can't wait to make a study from the 4th bedroom of the house we've just had an offer accepted on. But I don't know how we're going to stretch our small amount of furniture to fill it!!!!!! Angela

hi - i used to be in the understairs cupboard!! - my husband took the door off & it make a cute computer area! now i have a huge study - which doubles as a classroom as i am "home edding" my 3 boys

Unfortunately the door is still on my tiny cupboard, which makes it very very cosy. And I share what very little space there is with the iron and ironing board which hang from hooks on the door, as well as the computer and all my family history clutter, a printer, a scanner, a fax/phone, my work papers, and all my kids' educational bits and pieces. I don't educate them at home but try to do my bit after I get home from work. After all, with a house this size the housework doesn't take long!!!! Can't wait to get out into something bigger. Unfortunately not. The door won't close when I am sitting in front of the computer and with half of me in our living room I am hardly invisible unfortunately. Maybe if I covered myself with the various unironed clothes that are usually draped over the ironing board (no house room for an ironing basket), they'd think I was a pile of clean washing. No prospect of anyone else doing the ironing so I'd be quite safe for a while. In fact I'll do it now...............Everybody ignore me I'm not here anymore, honest!!! Angela

angela - that doesnt work - ive tried it!! they always seem to find you - its like when you go to have a relaxing bath - you just get in & everyone needs to come in for some reason or another !! moving swiftly back on to the subject we were supposed to be on .............

Hi all, you don't realise how lucky you are to have somewhere to go and do your stuff on the PC. I'm stuck in the lounge with the telly blaring, kids yakking etc. I know its nice to spend time with your family but oh how nice it would be to study in peace sometimes. Andy (jealously reading this thread)

Angela Report 19 Apr 2004 21:41

Don't be jealous of me! The telly's about 6 feet away from me and I'm having to listen to a very boring film in the background. Child number 2 has flatly refused to go to bed and has just been persuaded to sleep on the sofa so all the lights are off to stop her waking up. In fact its been 3 years since I've been able to sit with the lights on in the evening because of one child or other!!!!! I know I should be firmer, but because they share a room when you insist on them going to bed when they don't want to they scream the place down and wake the other one up (not to mention the neighbours in the terrace either side of us). But if you really really want my understair cupboard, it'll be vacant like the rest of the house hopefully in a few weeks.......... Angela

And child number 2 has just fallen spectacularly off the sofa and, you've guessed it is screaming the place down. Looks like this is the end of my evening's surf. Night all! Angela

Norah, I am feeling a bit left out here. I also want a cupboard under the stairs. I am upstairs in hubby's office and sitting at hubby's p.c. Sometimes he makes little animal noises in the background and I know that he wants his office back. Lindy:-)))))))))

Sandra Report 19 Apr 2004 22:10

I am sitting with Laptop in front room. Surrounded with paperwork. Only me and little dog. Have to tidy away each night though. Have pc in bedroom hidden away but can only use late at night if I feel like it as takes too long to get downstairs to answer door. I wanted mine under stairs but next doors heating is always on Full blast (not good for computers) and heat is too much for me. Never mind one day will have a little office to myself, when I move. Have an Art studio at back but so full, no room for anything else. Sandra

Christine, you're only lucky if it's not an electric guitar and he doesn't want to bring a group around to practise!
