If a man believe that nothing is known, he does not know whether this even can be can be known, since he admits that he knows nothing. I decline therefore to argue against one who puts his head where his feet ought to be. Yet even were I to grant that he knows this. I would ask him, since he has never yet seen any truth in things, whence does he know what either knowing or not knowing are? What has produced the concept of the true and of the false? and what has proved the doubtful to differ from the certain? R.C.Trevelyan

Yes - several times - but I prefer to think of them as 'spirits' rather than ghosts. Sometimes they appear 'solid' - just as if they were alive, and I don't always realise straight away that they aren't normal, living, breathing people/animals. Sometimes, they are 'transparent' and sort of fade in and out, and sometimes I don't see them with my eyes, but see them in my head! That sounds really w-e-i-r-d ...... but it's the only way I can explain it! Regarding the missing items mysteriously turning up - that is a regular occurrence in this house! I lost my reading glasses last week. I checked everywhere, all over the house, to no avail. In the end, in desperation, I said, out loud, "OK, if you've got my glasses, please give them back, now. I need them!" I went to the bathroom, and when I came out, I almost trod on my glasses, which were placed, neatly folded on the carpet immediately outside the bathroom door! I had been in and out of the bathroom all day, and would have either seen them or trodden on them if they had been there previously! Needless to say, I said a very loud "Thank you"!

I, too, am sceptical, and believe that many sightings could be rationally explained, either as optical illusions, hysteria, or hoaxes. However, it is not only women who can "sense" things. I have had "feelings" about places several times (twice on ships); though not having directly seen a ghost, I have seen inexplicable reflections and shadows, as well as unusual happenings, such as lights dimming, or turning off and on, and icy cold rooms that cannot be heated. Keep your mind open - as Shakespeare said, "...there are more things on heaven and earth... ...than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

My father was a staid man, a schoolmaster who never wasted words and could not be bothered to exagerate. He confided to me, in his later years, an experience he had had in the trenches in 1917. He had been on leave for a few days, behind the lines and, when he returned to his sector, as he was about to rejoin his unit in a dug-out he met a soldier from his platoon and they had a brief chat. When he got with the rest of lads, he remarked that he had met old so and so outside. There was a silence then some one told him that the man had been killed some days earlier. Len

It's creepy stuff guys, but I'm pleased that I read them all. I have only 'sensed' things a few times, and they're abit scarey. My uncle was terminally ill and the day he died, I knew in the morning that it was going to happen that day. Yet, my father died suddenly and I had no idea till my mother rang me. I would love for my father to visit me.

Hi lindy, I am glad that you decided to leave your message on. I know when my sister is phoning me, plus sometimes i can pickup the phone to dial her, but she is already on the line and the phone hasn't even rung, I go pressing buttons and she says hello Nat are you there spooky Nat

Lindy Report 21 Apr 2004 20:44

Good evening all, In view of your replies I shall leave the message as is. Terri, In reply to your question. I do believe that it is genetic. My late Grandmother used to communicate with them and was not afraid. It bypassed my mother, but she is a believer. My sister cannot see but she senses things more strongly then I do. She can also sense death which bothers her very much. One of my young nieces can also see people and is not afraid because nobody makes a big deal about it. Lindy:-)

Like Jeanette I have feelings about places. One in particular was when I went with friends to a country pub in Sussex where I live, It dates back to the 1300s. As soon as I entered I felt really uneasy, and the whole place seemed to blur, I felt as if I was being smothered and had to get out immediately. A few years later with a boyfriend I went again, really to see if the same thing happened. I managed to stay in long enough to sit down, but the same feeling came over me and I couldn't stay in there. I went back once more a couple of of years later, same feeling again, but this time I stayed put. I had a camera with me this time and took a photo of the outside of the place. When they were developed that one did not come out. I don't know if the place was haunted or not, but I definately cannot explain why I felt like I did. (I had not even had a drink at any one of those stages!!) Lynda

I saw my grandfather about a week after he'd died. I was about 11 years old at the time and it scared me half to death. He looked solid and normal and just looked at me then he disappeared.

Lindy, please don't remove your message. We all add to these threads because they are things we are interested in! I remember seeing my mum (or a short of shape like my mum) smoothing the covers on my top bunk when i was about 4. I was petrified and jumped down and crawled in behind my brother for the rest of the night. When i was about 12, I twice saw shapes in my bedroom in another house. I also get strange feelings about places and although my husband is a bit sceptical, when we were looking for our current house, he always asked how i felt about it. Strangely, our house is about 130 years old and it feels fine. Pam

Trish Caller display! lol. Only joking. I do that when my Mum rings and I haven't got caller display. Paul Well said! We are all entitled to our own opinions and I like to be presented with all sides of the story. It's a shame some people can't have a good healthy debate without resorting to nastiness. Plus, on here, we've got the option of ignoring it if we don't like it. Lindy I hope you leave your message on but will understand if you feel you have to remove it. Jeanette

Paul, well said! Everyone has a right to say what they want, don't let the minority spoil things for others. By the way Lindy, I know when my eldest rings me (before I pick up the phone), don't know how - another unexplained feeling. lol

Lindy, please don't start removing perfectly normal messages for fear of how people will respond - if you do then the bad people of the world have won. accept taht perhaps some (like myself) will not beleive, but you shouldnt be afraid to express your beliefs.

Hi Nat, I have seen my Grandmother, my Father and people that I don't know. I did not see my M i l but she made her presence know in an unpleasant way. When I was a child I used to tell my Mother about stangers that I could see. My teens were the worst. Nobody would believe except for my Mother and Grandmother. It took me years to block out the signs. I can sense things, normally bad things. When the phone rings and it is bad news I know before even picking up the phone. There is a very strong bond between my sister and I which is unusual as we did not grow up together as I am eighteen years older then her. She was born two months after our Grandmother died. We know when something is wrong with each other. I am afraid of the dark and always have been. I hate sleeping in strange places. I leave you to draw your own conclusions. Nat, I am only leaving this message on for awhile as I don't want it to turn into somthing nasty as seems to be the case lately. Lindy:-)

Good on yer Paul! That's one of my favourite sayings - I'll believe it when I see it. I do try and be open minded about it too and try and think of a rational explanation for things that happen. Fact is, a lot of things that happen are difficult to explain. Jeanette

Hello, Yes I have seen a ghost, it was of my mom and she seemed to stay with me for just short of one year. Also my dog came back just after a week of being put to sleep, but just saw her the once. Re the feel people get when they go into a house, my daughter moved into a very nice house almost 3 years ago now, but I hate having to go into it. I have never said any thing to her about it, as I would not want to upset her or our grandchildren. Bye now June.

No it hasn't been proven 100% but then how can you prove that people are imagining things ? I think people will beleive what they want to beleive, and the senses fool them. Am very sceptical about all paranormal type things, I won't beleive it till I see it, but that's just my opinion, everyone else is entitled to beleive what they will.

Trish Report 21 Apr 2004 13:14

Jeanette, yes, it's not a "feeling" I can explain - I just know something is wrong with a house.
