Yes tried that, but thanks anyway Andy. I'll have another go at it tomorrow. Lynda

Probably already done so but have you tried moving your mouse or touchpad whichever you use? I did feel such a fool when my laptop wouldnt power up and all it was doing was hibernating waiting for activity. If that fails I have to say go with the earlier advice and hit the reset. Andy

My son of 14 says try pressing the off button as it may be on standby.

Have it disconnected from the charger and pull the battery out for about ten seconds. Snap the battery back and it should be OK. This won't work unless you are completely disconnected from the mains.

Thanks all for replying. Bob thanks for putting my mind at rest! Have searched the instruction book 3 times, probably will end up having to phone shop. Viv. Have a AC adapter which has to be connected anyway to charge the batteries, bit of chicken and egg! Neil. Have tried touching power upbutton quickly and also holding it down for a few seconds. If I disconnect the adapter then connect it again the power and battery indicators go on (green) and when I press the power on button all the lights come on then go off again. This happens whenever I disconnect and reconnect the AC. Perhaps if I shout at it loudly enough I can wake it up!!! Lynda

Hi Lynda. Have you tried unplugging it and then try the start button? When you push in the button, try not to hold it too long. You have to be quick. My wife;s laptop does that and then when I push the startup button, it comes on. Why, I don't know. Good luck Neil

Lynda, Does it have a battery? It may need to charge before it works. You could also try the reset button when you switch it on or if all else fails use your recovery disk to boot up. (hope you made one). Don't panic, I'm sure it will be ok. Perhaps some IT wizz out there can offer more help than me. Viv.

Lynda Highly unlikely you have knackered it... Most laptops "go to sleep" or power down when you close the lid to save battery. I can't say why it wont start up again but I bet it's something simple. Try readind the instructions looking for the phrases above. If all else fails phone the shop you got it from. Bob

I think I have done something really stupid!! I had my lap top on yesterday, and wanting to cook dinner but not switch it off, I lowered the lid right down so the cat wouldn't climb all over the keyboard. I must have been away from it a good hour. When I got back it was off, and now it won't work the adapter is in the lights go on then off again, when I press the power on button. I am frantic if it is caput, they won't cover it under my full warrenty. It's only 6 months old, I feel really stupid ,I have never owned a lap top before and guess I didn't think. Who needs a cat to knacker a laptop when you can do it yourself!!!!! Lynda
