Thank-you for your replys.Does a barrister carry more sway in court than a solicitor if acting on one's behalf opposite a client represented by a solicitor? |

A barrister is a person called to the bar and is entitled to act as an advocate in the higher court. A solicitor is a member of the legal profession qualified to to advise clients (as to the law and their rights) and to represent clients in the lower courts. They may also act as intermediaries in house-purchase, drawing up contracts, wills etc etc. |

A barrister (QC) is "qualified to plead in the higher courts". Solicitors need not ever go near a court. |

can anybody explain the difference between a solicitor and a barrister.i may sound thick but I have an idea what the difference is but want to confirm it,Thanks. |
