Do you play games with your children, such as Scrabble, Ludo, Monopoly, or even cards? When my children came home from school I always had a big pot of tea, and biscuits of course, and the children were able to unwind over a game of ludo before they got down to their homework. Even now, one of my daughters has a pack of cards in her bag and when visiting me asks if we can have a couple of hands of cards. My grandson loves to play Newmarket. I taught him to play this. This is one of the games I used to play with my own grandmother and grandfather. We used to play for ha'pennies and farthings in those days. Even now, we only play with small coins. I think games around the table are one way of getting together as a family. I always insisted on all being present at meal times too, unless there was a good reason. Protests sometimes when they had to get out of bed for Sunday breakfast, when they wanted a "lay in".

Yes Terri, even arguing over rules etc. at least it gets the family together. Too many children are left to roam the streets and cause vandalism etc. A more stable home life would help!

We are great Scrabble fans and play at least once a week, although our son doesn't always join in. He likes Trivial Pursuit so that comes out from time to time. We always have a new board game or two at Christmas to last us the year - usually tv games, like Family Fortunes, Countdown, etc.

What better way to pass a wet winters Sunday afternoon. We play Monopoly, Scrabble and cards. It's good to get the family altogether for something like this - you can't beat a good family argument! lol Jeanette

Arguments are part of life, we can't always agree with one another, life would be dull. Variety is the spice of life. So nice to hear that some families keep up playing games etc. A healthy start in life.

Have you ever played pictionary? It can be hilarious! You have a partner - the more the merrier. Pick a card and draw what it is person/place etc to at set time while you're partner is trying to guess what you've drawn. Sometimes it's an All Play where one person in each team is drawing - what a huge amount of noise and laughter! Makes it interesting if English is a second language!
