Hi Debbie, I agree with you, 1 sandwich is 1 slice of bread, 2 sandwiches = 2 slices etc - my pet hate is asking my hubby what he wants in his sandwiches and he replies - whatever - i dont mind - or - anything you want - so i wrote a list for the butcher saying - a quarter of whatever a quarter of i dont mind and a quarter of whatever Lynda :0)

Okay, a sandwich that is made of more than two slices is called a "club sandwich" put the meat and cheese between the first two slices and the salad between the second and third,cut anyway you like it secure it with toothpicks and I say he makes his own sandwichs.

Why do we call it a 'round' of sandwiches when the bread is square? (Unless you use that pappy milk loaf stuff, which IS round and not what the average person uses for sandwiches) confused Maggie

I was always taught that four slices of bread makes two rounds of sandwiches - strange when the bread is squarish!! My husband says one slice of bread makes a sandwich, I disagree because I would call that half a sandwich. I definately think that a sandwich is two slices of bread. Actually I have become very confused so decided to look it up in a 1950's Cassell's dictionary 'sandwhich - two thin slices of bread and butter with meat etc. between them'. I reckon we all have diferent ideas on sandwiches these days.

Debs, I`d be eating only 1/2 a sandwich,and feeling hungry still, afterwards.

Hi Sheila I do that sometimes, just fold it over and you would call it a sandwich, well any normal person would wouldnt they. So baz what would you call one slice of bread folded over what would you be eating. Thanks Sheila for your support I dont feel so alone anymore. Debbie

Sometimes I dollop some jam on half of the slice and flip the other half over - is this still a sandwich?! Debbie - don't let them get to you!

Thanks John looks a good site even got recipes on there. Well, I am very upset that not one person has agreed with me apart from my 8 year old she said that if you cut it into 4 it makes 4 sandwiches. If you go to a party and someone offers you a plate of cucumber sandwiches, and they are cut into little triangles if you said I will have just one they would give you just the 1 triangle wouldnt they? they wouldnt hand you 4 little ones. From a very miserable Debbie

I just found out that there is a British Sandwich Association and their site is http://www.sandwich.org.uk/. I had a quick look, but couldn't find the definition of a sandwich. Why not check it yourself!

No one asks for half a sandwich,so 1 sandwich is one slice of bread,2 sandwichs are 2 slices of bread and so on and so on. We eat any make of bread as long asit is thick sliced. Steve.

Sorry Debbie, I agree with bf. One sandwich is two slices of bread even if cut in two or more. Two sandwiches is 4 slices of bread. Personally I cut horizontally and use Hovis Best of Both medium sliced.
