Some people are very quick with smart replies, others are not so quick - can you remember your best 'put-downer'? I'm one of the 'not so quick brigade' so I always remember this one:- A boy-friend and I had been to our local Palais de Danse, he excused himslf to visit the gents, and three different men came to ask me for a dance, and I refused each time, feeling embarrassed at doing so. So when a fourth one came up, I accepted. That caused a row with the boy-friend when he returned. Taking me home in his car, the atmoshere was still a bit fraught and he turned to me and said "why don't we start saying nice things about each other?" to which I replied "Start talking, I've got nothing to say" Now wasn't that just horrible.............lol Norah

Many years ago I visited Egypt and told my 4 year old sister all about it when I got back. She asked me what a Sphinx was as she'd heard me talking about it. I explained to her that it had the head of a human and the body of an animal - to which she replied (with a poker straight face) ..... a bit like you, baboon !!!! - Kids eh ... don't you just love em.

i went to a friend of a friends party abt 10yrs ago, there were some yuppies there ( im an cockney) and they were being quite rude about my accent and using big words, so i simply asked them politely: if they were insinuating that i should tolerate such diabolical insolence from such unsophisticated pieces of animosity. their mouths fell open, and i said "just because i dont speak with a plum in my mouth it doesnt make me stupied or rude" and i turned and walked away. penny

One that always made me smile was hearsay so not sure how true it was or if it was a 'wish I had'! a bit rude this one. somebody years ago was flashed by a fellow, she looked him in the eye and said "I've seen bigger maggots in an apple" and walked off. Ann Glos

Penny - that was briliant , but if I tried to remember that for a similar occasion, I would 'fluff' the lines. Bridget - Very clever - I liked that one and Ann - Oh, I'm saving that for when I get flashed!!! Norah
