Lo energy light bulbs

Am I unlucky, these so called long life light bulbs, dont seem to last much longer than ordinary ones, or be so reliable, i put a brand new one in this morning, switched on, it glowed for about 10 seconds, and then it ended up like so many of our ancestors..brown bread........Bob |

Bob I'm not over keen on them either, the ones I bought look awful and stick out from under the shades, also don't find them bright enough. The last one I used, kept coming on and going off at regular intervals and I'm afraid I have now replaced it with a non energy saving, but at least stable light bulb!!! Lynda |

Yes, you've definitely got a duff one, Bob! We have had to replace 2 recently, but considering we have been using them for 10 years, we don't mind too much! (For interest, my husband marked them with the date when we first put them in place, and when the first one 'went', it was 10 years almost to the day!) Janet |

Sorry Daphne, I misled you slightly, Yes I do have several of them that have been reliable, but I also have had some that fell by the wayside very early on, in life, so to speak, todays one was supposed to have a 12year life? |

Bob. Just seen your reply, and if it were me, I would take it back where you bought it and demand a replacement. Failing that - contact the Manufacturers - I'm sure that'll do the trick! |

I'm not convinced that they're worth having apart from the fact they don't need changing as often. The energy whcih is "wasted" with conventional bulbs isn't really wasted at all (for most of the year) as it simply helps to heat your house. |

I don't get on with them either - they don't last as long as they should, and they are too dim. I gave up on them and instead started using lower wattage bulbs - they were just as good as the long life ones. Don't know if it's saving me much money (someone out there might know?) but it feels as if it should as I tend to use 40s where I used 60s and 30s in the hallways, which looks better when people come to the door if I haven't dusted!!! Geoff is right esp if you use electric to heat your home. You should also consider the energy and materials used to construct them when you throw them in the bin. Bob |
