I am chief cook, cleaner, nurse, supervisor, do all the shopping on my scootmobile. I make all my own bread, sometimes jams and marmalades. I also have time to do cross stitch, correspond with pen friends, internet, genealogy.What does my other half do, you would ask. Read, read, read. Oh he is a technical man, so if he feels like it will connect, disconnect, change a light bulb etc. Do I mind, no because I'd hate him coming into MY kitchen. When we were in America he bought me a tile which said "Sylvia's kitchen", so obviously he knows where I belong.

hi sylvia you started off with a bit of a moan and then claimed its your kitchen, you were brought up in the days when men went out to work, and the wife did everything else. So it must be hard for your hubby to adjust and i'm sure he cuts the lawn, maintains the car etc things that men of your generation were expected to do. myself i worked fulltime, ran a home , and sorted out the kids. with ex hubbys help. i also taught my 5 children 3 boys how to cook, use a washing machine, iron, hoover etc ,sew on buttons,and make a shopping list and do the shopping.and change baby's bums and i think alot of women nowadays have done this to provide better husbands !!!!! NO its so that all our kids can survive equally in partnerships or alone in the big wide world. no offense intended. lol sandra

We don't have a garden, as we now live in a flat, but my husband never did anything in the garden anyway. You see he was brought up living above a shop and knew nothing about gardening, whereas I was brought up with a garden. I can understand him not know anything about plants etc. I also worked until I was 63 years of age. Only gave up because we moved. Yes, I agree, we should be teaching our children the skills we know, these could die out. My granddaughter can make beautiful cakes and my grandson is learning to be a cook, so he'll be another Jamie Oliver (his favourite cook). As I said, anything technical my husband does it, I wouldn't know how to, would you?

hi sylvia i live alone so i also do the technical things, maintain the car,tile, decorate, change tap washers basic plumbing, i can wire lights and plugs basically what a bloke can do i have a go to, i have a book on things around the home and its just like following a recipe. the only thing i can't do is lift heavy objects as a man has more strength, and spiders are a definate man job, i hate them!!!!.and i laid a patio a couple of years ago too. its nice in thjis day and age to have a go at everything. still can't crochet though,i will have to find a book or someone that can teach me, and there's probably things i can't do as i haven't tried them yet. Maybe i was a bloke in a previous life. lol sandra

I suppose if we were really pushed for help, then we could do these things. I am a bit scared for electricity and hate gas. I learnt to crochet here in Holland, with the result that I cannot follow an English crochet pattern, only Dutch. Knitting patterns I can follow in both languages and simple Spanish ones.

Girls, You really put me to shame. All the "mens" tasks that you can do. I couldn't even dream of attempting these chores. Take it easy, life is short. Greetings, Sylvia

Jenny I know the feeling, my hubby goes to work and thats about all he does! Im left to do housework, gardening looking after two small kids, all the DIY and decorating down to laying wooden floor, plastering and tiling the kitchen and bathroom! I spent years waiting for hubby to turn his hand to DIY and started to do it myself( it was less hassle and quicker lol) Hubby comes hom from work and is worn out he says ... some men have no idea!
