Is it just me, or is this rude?

"Well, It seems that our lines are too out of place to be correct. Just ships passing in the night. Good luck on your searching. We won't contact again. David" In my email, I was really enthusiastic and hopeful... and then I got this reply which sorta upset me.

Well, it does seem a bit offhand, Chloe, but looking at the positive side - at least you received a reply! Janet

Yeah.... I know. He was American... aren't Americans suposed to be less polite than British people? No offence to anyone intended.

I don't know about that, but perhaps he didn't intend it to sound quite the way it did? I wouldn't be too bothered about it, if I were you. It may have come over completely differently if you had been speaking to him face to face. Janet

hi chloe, how does he know 'we wont contact again' the amount of times i have contacted or been contacted by people again, on a completely different subject is amazing ! just remember, and repeat it to him if your paths ever cross. ooooh and he has gone in my little black book ! lol sue.

does sound rude yes - especially the "we won't contact again" bit. perhaps wasn't meant that way though - some people just don't phrase things very well. Wouldn't take it to heart.

I have a relative in NZ, and this sounds like something he would have said! But to him it would be adding a joke. And as men cant multi task having an extra 'contact' would probably confuse him! So it is easier to delete all contacts email etc. Dont take offence! I have tried saying it in my head in an American George Bush accent and it sounds alot less rude! Dont think that I am being strange, but try saying it.................................. So what do you think?

Chloe, it wouldn't have been quite so bad if he hadn't put the 'we won't contact again' - that's definitely rude! But it could have been worse ... I (and many others I'm sure) have been threatened with legal action by birth relatives! That's one hell of a shock when you open the envelope :)) Don't let it get you down :)))
