I don't know when it became the norm for people to marry on a Saturday but I suppose it must be to do with the five day week. Like Maz I have people in my tree who married on Christmas Day and a fair number of others who married at other times in December. Rosemary(Essex)

My hubby and I married on a Tuesday, no other reason than the date felt right. M.

I have quite a few in my tree who married on Christmas Day -wonder when that went out of style?? We got married on a Sunday because our best man was a professional footballer and couldn't do Saturday! Maz. XX

I think that in England it is because everybody has a free day, but here in the Netherlands you are given time off. For instance your brothers and sisters, etc. would also be given a day off - and paid. If you get married here on a Saturday it is more expensive, so people will think you are well off if you choose Saturday.

Don't know the answer to that, but 3 of my friends are getting married on friday's as they haven't been able to book the places they wanted on a saturday as too busy (plus cheaper on friday!) Maybe things are changing?! Natalie

spontaneous thought: perhaps after the 5-day working-week became common - people who had been working mondays to saturdays suddenly had time on saturdays to get married, have kids, live a bit, do the chores, die, etc,
