Lisa, I am not in any way saying this is a good Government. I don't think there has ever been such a thing! As for going into Iraq, I think every party ever elected has at some time made such a decision about war. There have always been refugees, at times more public than at others.Taxes rise with each Government and yes I do know about a lot of pay being deducted each month even after years of training and qualifications for both myself and hubby, not that my own professions have been paid enough to have tax deducted! What I did say is that Politics are personal and each has their own reason and experiences for voting or not voting. The only thing I do wish is that more people would vote at each election if not everyone and thereby electing a party that is really by a majority vote. Right, enough of politics. When's the party? Jacky:-)

I have encouraged my children to vote, when the time came for them to do so, reminding the girls in particular that sacrifices had been made to get women the vote but I have never discussed who they should vote for. I refuse to tell the party representatives outside the hall just who I have voted for, - I don't even tell my husband.

Let me take you back to the Council elections sometime during the 1970's. Before going to work, I went up to the local school where the voting takes place, only to be told that I couldn't vote because my name wasn't on the list!!!!!!!! Get to work, first thing I do is to phone the local council office ready to kick up a stink with the officials, only to be told in no uncertain terms that I simply wasn't registered. When I said that that was rubbish, they then went and found the original electoral forms that had been sent round to all the households to be filled in and lo and behold my dear husband had put himself in and not me. There was very nearly a divorce in our house!!!! I have always taken voting very seriously, remembering what the suffragettes went through in times gone by to get women the vote. I abhor Tony Blair, he and his cronies have damaged this country in so many ways, and as for taking us into the EEC, why? Our greatest ally was General de Gaulle who was against us being part of it at any price, and Ted Heath our worst enemy for leading us to believe that we were just joining a market. Norah

OK, I normally steer slear of politics (and religion) but... While I won't go so far as to say the current regime has made things worse, I do think they've failed miserably to improve ANYTHING, despite constant promises to the contrary. Time for a change of the guard again, I shall be voting against them. Oh and I don't trust Tony Blair as far as I could throw him, smug, devious, self promoting git that he is.

jacki i think it has got worse under labour, taxes have risen for the working class and are still rising .my husband is a middle class earner and to get ther he has do years and years of college and courses to get where he is today.why should he have to pay high taxes and national insurance for people who cannot be botherd to get off their butts and earn a living.plus i might add what people are really concerned about is the asylum issue.wheres the money coming from that .the tax payer again .unless the problem is sorted out we'll always be paying through the nose in taxes.what about the war in iraq. i know there are so many views on this but was it nessesary to go in with the americans when they had no solid evidence of wmd.i think we should fear for our lifes now because we'll always be watching our backs for the rest of our lives.thanks tony!

ooooh! I do hate Political debates as they are really so personal to your own situation but....... have the present Government actually made things any worse? I think a lot of damage was done long before they came to power and especially in areas that I have been involved in workwise. Personally I feel a lot of things have improved but even if I thought differently, that would not in any way make me ask anyone to vote in a particular direction as each person has their own choice and reasons for voting as they do. Jacky:)

John Report 13 May 2004 15:56

In Aus, we get fined if we don't vote. That's OK, at least the party who gets in can claim they have a genuine mandate. We are well practiced too - 3 tiers of Government (Federal, State and Local) and general elections (Federal) every 2-3 years- means we are voting for something every year.

just over the years while labour have been in power i have seen the country slowly going down the pan.i have moaned and groaned and my words about the goverment have been unrepeatable.but who's to blame for this.we are .we're the biggest culprits.why i hear you ask?because there are people in this country me included who did not vote in the last general elections.as you all know the local council elections are coming up on the 10th june and all i can say is if we all stick together and use are vote in the local elections and general elections we can hopefully stop all thats happening to this great country that we call great britain.your vote can make this happen.
