After hand rearing my two one week old goslings last year and then seeing them hatch five babies of their own on 26th April and my older gander Jacko looking on with pride - I have just had to rehome them because of FREDDIE FOX - The only consolation I have is that they have gone to a gentleman who is a national judge at the agricultural shows and bird shows and has one thousand different birds of his own so i know mine will not end up on the table at Christmas as he has birds for pleasure not to kill them This has broken my heart That flaming fox!!!!!!

oh Tracy, poor you. It must be like losing members of the family, but take comfort from knowing that they will be well looked after.

I'm sure you did your best Tracy. Nature is cruel sometimes. Hope they do well in their new home. Best wishes, Jo.

Sorry to hear about your goslings Tracy, hopefully they will now be safe. It is true that there is nothing so cunning as a fox, they can climb fences and even barbed wire won't stop them. They kill for fun and not just for food. I am not in favour of foxhunting (but not for the usual reasons) but they do need to be controlled although they do have their part to play in tyding up fallen stock and road kills etc. Terri, what sort of farm do you work on? Terri, is this one of those places where you show under privelidged (no spell check) children that milk comes from a cow and not a bottle!! It sounds like a lot of fun. I'm still one of those who can put Ag Lab on their census form, but I drew the line at it going on my marriage cert. I've only worked with cows, sheep, chickens and turkeys. Ros

although still gutted at the thought of my babies being rehomed and it felt so strange not getting up to feed them this morning and not hearing them "Bark" for want of better words - i recieved a phone call last night from the gentelman who took my geese saying that they had been rehomed all 8 together and that they took under their wings another 5 goslings that had no mummy. I take consolation in the fact that they are all together and that they have gone to a good home but it still hurts!! I know that a lot of you may think I'm crackers but they were my pets and I'm totally against foxhunting - i would have had to set live traps to catch the flaming thing. I don't like cruelty to animals at all and especially when high society people do it for a lark. Thank you all for your commiserations I'm moved I really am. Lots of love Tracy xxx

Tracy - just seen this thread. So sorry you have lost your babies, but as you say they have gone to a good home. We seem to be the chief dog rescuers round here - but sadly we rescued one the other day and it got away with a lead round its neck - loads of people were out looking for it on foot and cars, even some lad who was supposed to be playing cricket for Monmouth Boys School - the vets know about it and the dog warden, but nothing yet.Do hope its ok. Then this morning hubby turned up with another one - blind and deaf and covered in something really smelly. We phoned the owners and it belonged to someone we knew from our dog walks, thank goodness he's safe.Another one about a month ago found its owner as well:o)))))) Jude

Jude I hope your dog turns up safe and well - I'm glad there are people like you for defenceless animals - Keep up the good work - it sounds like you really enjoy what you are doing - Maybe you should open a rescue home for dogs - a career turn maybe!!!! love Tracy
