hi baz try a load of water lillies in baskets with compost in and pebbles on top of compost to hold compost down after a few months the water should start to clear and stay clear,you dont need all these cleaning fluids then and a lot cheaper once you have got the water lillies. sue

I`d like to thank you all for responding to my green water problem. I think with the chemicals, and the new filter system/uv light, things might start to improve. Many thanks Baz

I have a Koi pond. What you need is a very good filter system ,ultra violet light tube .The water sometimes goes a little cloudy in the very warm weather but soon clears ,i do not need to put any chemicals in at all.The pond is 12 feet by 10 feet and 4 feet deep . Val

Hi Baz,once the cleaning tablets have worked you could get some snails ,as suggested ,but there are also some fish that will do the job for you . My son has put a few plec,s in his and they work a treat ,they add to the pools look as well.

I have a small pond April it was like green pea soup put the pump and filter on and a barley ball in now you can see the bottom of the pond lovely and clear

try algorem/algofin.one of the two!available from garden centres,pet shops etc.

A neighbour had the same problem but the ultra violet filter has cured it. Takes a little time, though, so be patient.

Hi Baz My daughter works in an aquitic shop, she says you can get a product called Algorem made by Tetrafin to put in your pond, she also adds that you must change your uv tube every three months, (sunlight causes algae to grow) while using the product discribed you must remove the carbon sponge or pellets otherwise treatment will not be effective. Baz Ray uses Greenaway you can buy it at any garden centre or aquatic place he also buys those hay bale things that collect all the algae

So far I`ve tried Mandy`s `bleach`, Judiths snails, chemicals, straw,, you name it. The system has 2 pumps Pam, a large filter box with UV light, oxygenating plants, various other marginals, and a bio sludgebuster added, but still `green`

Hi Baz; It is caused by an inbalance of Algae usually caused by an excess of light and insufficient oxygenating water plants.If you visit a good water garden shop they will sell you a treatment that will kill of tyhe Algae; Me I'de call Charlie Dimmock. My boss was talking about his fish pond the other day and he reckons he heard on one of the tv gardening programmes that during the fist 12 months your pond will constantly go green (and I'm assuming you have a pump Baz) but after 12 months it will just clear by itself. He says it worked for him but he lost several fish along the way and eventually built up a "hardy" stock.

Valley, If you could remember the name of those tablets, I`ll be forever in your debt. I`ve tried everything. Even bought a new filter system,with built in UV light.

Isn't there some sort of 'pond bleach' stuff that you can get? Safe for the little fishies of course! It's just that we've had a small water feature put in and I was asking the gardeners if the water would eventually go stagnant, and he told me about this pond stuff. But I'm sure someone knows more than me!

Does anyone else suffer from `green water` in their fish ponds, and what do you do about it, ?
