Although i have been using the site for approx 6 weeks, i have just joined and thought i would come and say hello. My name is sue and i live in Manchester. i decided to start a family tree and i have to say some of it has been reasonably easy and some very very hard. How do you go about finding someone that was adopted, that is still living? i have a given birth name and a possible first name that was given, and a place of birth ish? any suggestions would be gratefully received? Thanks

Tracey

Hi Susan, Welcome aboard(dreadful pun,I know!). You can start at the Family Records Centre, in Islington, London, where there are reference books for Births, Marriages and Deaths, this gives you a reference number to order the certificate. They also have the Adopted Persons register. If you can get the birth name birth certificate, then it may say at the side in writing whether the person was adopted. Sorry if that's a bit long-winded. There are also some useful booklets about Adoption at the FRC. Send me an e-mail if you need any more info. best wishes, Sue

Hi Susan, Di was talking about Joan and Debbie at www.myfolks(.)co.uk, dont forget to remove the brackets when you type the name of the web-site in. It depends what your relationship is to the adoptee how far you can persure the matter, have a look on www.lookupuk(.)com this gives quite a bit of information also www.1837online(.)co.uk tell you about ordering certificate and appplying to go on there contatc register. Hope this helps. Best wishes Sheila

Thank you so much for the replies, they were very interesting, and informative. Wanted to ask another question if i may. has anyone ever heard of the name Dunstard as a forename, i have been lead to believe that is could be a very old name?? it is a part of a name that is in my tree that i am also looking for. Thanks Sue
