Thanks. I can't believe how much I have come to rely on the pc for everything- not just family history but contact with friends, paying bills, keeping household accounts etc. Having it die on me without warning was a real wakeup call. I now have a complete system backup on cdrom and will keep it up to date. At least for a while.............. Angela

Welcome back Angela!!!! I am a fairly newcomer and have enjoyed reading the general topics and tips have involved myself in those and been in touch with such lovely people... I am yet to join in the chat board properly, but I enjoy reading them. Hope your computer behaves itself now and gives you lots of fun.

A week and a half, and £83 later and I have my pc back in working order so I am able to get online again. It's taken me all evening to recreate my pc settings and internet connections but now I'm here and raring to go. And what's more, my friendly pc engineer was able to salvage ALL the data from my hard disk. Still no idea why the pc packed up - and nor has the engineer - but its working now so I'm happy again.
