in finding a nice hotel for my neighbour and his wife. The hubby wants to treat his wife to a nice weekend for her 50th birthday and to give her a treat after a lot of health problems she's had. If anyone can recommend anywhere in the SW where maybe the hotel is not too far away from a theatre or something and some nice walks (nothing strenuous) please let me know. I'm off to do a search now but will keep popping back to see if any replies. Thanks.

Just a thought - Never stayed there (too expensive) but the St Michaels Hotel at Falmouth looks lovely - overlooking Gyllyngvase Beach at Falmouth. You could check what is on in the Princess Pavillion theatre first (don't discount it if it's the amateur group, they used to be very good). It's a short stroll to the Pavillion and besides the theatre they often have live entertainment free in the bar/cafe. Lots of gentle walks around there by the sea. Cheers Chris p.s. Have been to look for tel nos:- in case you are interested - Princess Pavillion 01326 211 222 St Michael's Hotel 01326 312707 (swimming pool, sauna etc etc - champagne, flowers, chocs in room available for special occs.)

Have just added bits - you may not have seen as your reply overlapped. p.s. make that 3 p.p.s. wish you could see the brochure - I'm drooling - sea view worth extra if he can afford it.

Thanks for the numbers Chris. Just seen their site and it looks perfect but at their prices I'd better not book a room for me and hubby just yet. It's £228 for 2 nights B&B. Just what my neighbour is after though. Keep this to yourself as it's to be a suprise for his wife - he's just going to take her off without saying anything with a prepacked suitcase in the boot of the car.

Lat us know how they get on and tell him to be sure and pack her favourite clothes. Cheers Chris

Favourite clothes plus old jeans and trainers and a snuggly pair of pyjamas and bed socks in case it gets chilly. LOL. Romance is still alive in this house really! :-))

Oh and don't forget make up and hot brush and all the little things we women need for 2 nights or 14.Chris x

I think I'd better offer my services for the packing - men don't think of these things do they? I go away for one night and I need a very large suitcase just for me, packed with all those things I might need just in case. lol

Not to mention the holdall for shoes (well you don't know what the weather is going to be like, or what colour you will end up wearing) Oh and the vanity case and LARGE handbag plus small handbags for evening in a selection of colours!! I suddenly realised why, when Hubby is looking to change the car, the first thing he asks the salesman is "how big is the boot"!! LOL Chris

Hi Trish, my friendly neighbour!! We had a lovely weekend for my 40th birthday, and not too far to travel. It's just off the A38 between Exeter and Newton Abbot, little place called Furzeleigh Mill. Very reasonable, have ensuites, but don't expect massive luxury as it's very old and cottagey BUT very clean and pretty. Food is excellent - real old-fashioned stuff like steak and kidney pie, etc (can't be doing with one lettuce leaf and a coulis :)) and the puddings are mmmmmmmm with loads and loads of clotted cream. I'm pretty sure there's a website if you google it, but if not, let me know and I'll dig out the brochure.
