Take a look at this: http://www.quatloos.com/cm-niger/nigerian_scam_letter_museum.htm I receive on a daily basis one of these messages from Nigeria. Am I alone in being a recipient?

Dedrah The chat board is great fun, but just lately seems to be working slowly. So a little tip when you're on there, don't get impatient and keep clicking away otherwise your message will appear several times and everyone else will think you're stuttering LOL It's nice having a chat board and general board that are nothing to do with genealogy, but there are the tips board and records office board for those, so everything's covered. Welcome to the madhouse, hope to see you around often. Mandy x

Dedrah, look to the right and it shows the boards, look for chat. When you are on the board you have to keep refreshing to get it up quicker. Hope you find it

I had'nt been on here for a while, and came back only to realise it was getting quite nasty. I decided to ask people who their favourite animals were and what they would do if they won a couple of million on the Lottery, just so GC members would think of something nice instead. I hope it's all finished now.

Totally agree with you Paul. I've been with G.C. since the early days, I don't go out much and yes my kids do call me sad coming on here, but I've learnt so much and had many a good laugh along the way. Just lately, I must admit a lot of the pleasure of coming on here has been missing and many of the 'old' names seem to have disappeared. Hopefully we can all get back to the happy place this was in the past and maybe some of those people will come back and more new members discover what a friendly place it CAN be.

Adding my two penn'orth now! Paul, quite agree - have heard that you're a 'nice bloke' so make sure you stay :) Gaynor - my friend - nice to see your name here as well Donna - you sound just like me, I thought I was the queen of silly questions :) Sandra - I love the pc, have used one for years at work, love doing internet shopping and emailing people, but incredibly had never used a chat board before I joined GC a few weeks ago, and had no idea about msn messenger either. Now fluent in both - so there's hope for you yet my love! If you've got any pc queries, feel free to get in touch as it's hubby's job. Just going to say one last thing, and I've just posted this on the chat board as well. I think a way of helping to get all the fun back is if we ignore any threads with a controversial title, and any threads posted by anyone we suspect may be trying to start up controversy. Here endeth the sermon :))

How I agree with all of you. We have all noticed 'little upsets' over the past few months - but come on - life's too short! I have just read that at least 2 people have decided not to renew, partly because of these upsets. It's such a shame. I really enjoy reading and participating on the boards and have found out lots of new things ranging from PC maintenance to recipes! I've also learned a bit about genealogy! LOL Keep smiling :o)) Sue

Paul, It seems to go in phases, when I joined over a year ago what was then the members board (now the chat board) was 'humming' all the time. Those of us on there thought it was great and we had some good conversations. some people thought it was clicky and only for 'the few' so GC renamed it the chat board. More went on for a while, then they brought in the membership only so we lost a few. at the same time as changing that board they renamed 'guest book' (which was a weird name, but which spawned poets pot and a few more ongoing threads) General Board, and people migrated there from the chat board. Maybe we don't need both the chat and general board - people can't be in two places at once and we seem to chat on the general board. the benefit of the general board is that if you don't like the topic you don't have to join in. It is good to be able to talk to people and I enjoy a chat. ido prefer it when the subjects are not too heavy though and I feel uncomfortable when there are so many upsets. The written word is easily misunderstood and requires more tolerance than the spoken word so we should all remember that and enjoy the companionship that the boards bring us. It is good to see that the other two boards both geared to family History (remember that subject that brought us all together?) are still thriving. Ann Glos

I agree with you Paul. But it does put people off from posting, especially if you are new, when there is bad feelings going about. All famillies have squables and spatts and that is what has happend here. Heres to it all blowing over soon. The good weather might add to less people being on too, I keep hearing my garden calling!

Paul I agree, it has been slow but we should still try and talk, I know I have been missing but its not because I am upset about anything its just that at the moment, there isn't enough hours in the day

For goodness sake can we stop all the gnashing of teeth and wailing about how things aren't very nice here anymore. Yes there have been a few rows which have been unpleasant, but the main reasons the boards are quiet is that people have stopped posting, and especially the chat board seems much quieter the last few weeks, IF YOU WANT THINGS TO BE FRIENDLY AGAIN TAKE THE INITIATIVE AND START TALKING ! Thank you for listening, I'll get off my soapbox now :)
