Hi Val, I just did a search and came up with this Symptom... The scanner is reporting an TWAIN error, the driver is unable to connect, and the device is unable to scan from any application. Troubleshooting Steps Make sure the temporary memory is not full or corrupted. To do so click on the Windows "Start" then select "Programs" and then "System Tools." Choose Drive C then select okay. Put a check mark in the Temporary files, Temporary Internet files and the recycle bin making sure no other items are selected. Click on OK to delete the files and "Yes" to the warning. Recycle the power to the scanner to release all stored residual power, to cycle to power, disconnect the USB and the Power cable from the back of the scanner. Restart the computer. Download and install the current driver for your scanner after uninstalling the old driver. For help with this step please click here. When prompted, plug the scanner power in and then the USB cord in that order. Click on Finish. Once the scanner driver is installed, please reboot the computer. Locate the small scanner icon in the bottom right corner of your screen. If the icon for the scanner has a red x on it, right mouse click on the icon and select connect. If the above information does not resolve the issue, continue with the following: Right mouse click on the My computer icon and select Properties. When the system properties opens click on the Device manager tab. Note: For windows 2000 and XP, click on the Hardware tab and click on the Device Manager Button. Determine if the scanner is listed under Imaging Devices, Other Device, or Unknown Device. Windows 98\ME Right mouse click on the scanner driver and choose remove. Once the driver has been removed, click on the refresh button at the bottom of the device manager screen. You should not get a new hardware found message to install the driver. Windows 2000\XP Double click on the scanner driver. Click on the Driver tab at the top and click on the "update driver" button. Make sure the disk is in the computer and click on automatic for the installation type. Once windows have installed the driver for the scanner, reboot the computer. If the scanner fails to connect, unplug both the USB and Power cords to the scanner for 1 minute and plug them back in. Hope it helps Sue:-)
