wondering if anyone knows who judorw5091 is they want me to add them but i dont know who it is, could they do any harm if i let them on my list if it turns out i dont know them? any help appreciated thanks tina xxx

Tina, I would imagine it's probably someone on here who goes by a user name eg 'Johnny from London' and of course then you won't know what their actual email address is. I'm new to msn myself though, so wouldn't like to advise. There are quite a few users on this site, hopefully one will see this message, but if not, email me direct and I'll ask one of my contacts. I wonder if it is a co-incidence but my spam-rate shot up after I enlisted with msn. I used to use my real name but found that I was too easy to locate by people who had ulterior motives in contacting me by means other than GC and e-mail. len

A word of warning. There's an awful lot of spam around, I was besieged for several weeks by an American website trying to flog off Viagra! Similar e-mails with same mispelled content coming from a number of different e-mail addresses. I'm particularly alert to those addresses which look artifically clever, that is they have a jumble of letters and numbers in them. I know that we're all advised to use something like that to make it harder for pirates to guess our usual names, family dates etc, but I guess most people still use their old favourites. I've set my spam trap to catch anything like that, so that at least I can decide whether to shoot them. Some of them automatically attach themselves to your address book, and those are the ones you'v really got to look out for. Hope that helps, Philip

Hi, Just a word of warning if you ever get a invite to add people to your msn, and you don't know them delte them as there is somebody going around who ask's to be added and they are a HACKER, I am one of 3 managers of a MSN site, and we were warned by msn about this way of people hacking into your accounts. Remeber if in doubt don't accept, if this person does know you they will always e-mail you first to ask if they can be added. As long as you do this you should have no problem downloading MSN Messenger, another tip is to open a seperate account solely just to use messenger that way Lord forbid they do hack into you they do not effect any other accounts. Hello Lisa, You don't need to sign on with MSN as your ISP in order to use messenger. I'm signed on with an entirely different ISP, but I have been able to register with MSN messenger, so I can interact directly with anyone in my address book who is also registered and online at the same time. Susan, wise words which I would certainly support. If in doubt, DON'T!!! ....... Philip

Sorry, Susan & Lisa, Afraid I'm probably misleading you, in which case many apologies. What I was trying to say is that MSN is not my ISP, although the way the software is previously installled when you buy a new computer, the encouragement is always to make it your ISP. However, my main ISP used to be WH Smithnet, and I've recently changed to Tiscali. I have various others as back-ups as well, just in case one or other of the main servers is down when I need to get on the internet. However, having Tiscali as my ISP doesn't stop me registering my e-mail address with MSN, in order to be able to use messenger. We don't use it very much, but it's very useful to have around when one of the family is online at the same time. Hope this is clearer now, you still need to have the messenger software installed on your computer so, Lisa, you'll have to persuade your husband to reinstall it for you. Good luck! Philip
