Rach, sending you loads and loads of sympathy !! Sorry I didn't manage to reply to your thread yesterday, so this is belated - you might even have moved by the time you get this! House moving is incredibly stressful, so keep calm! It'll be lovely when you finally get there, especially as you said it's being renovated - nothing for you to do except play on GC! Love Mandy x

Hi Rach Best of luck! You'll get there in the end. We moved less than two weeks ago, my mother in law died 2 days before and my husband lost his job. (How many stress points is that?) Our housewarming party was the post funeral reception but it was a good way to get me to unpack the boxes VERY QUICKLY. I hope the next few weeks goes OK for you. When you look back it won't seem so bad. Mind you .. I still can't find my underwear ... Love Ann

I love moving house ... we're in the 9th house where my name has been on the deeds. The shortest time was 9 months and the longest was 8 years. Generally we seem to stay for between 4 and 5 years. Hoarding is a bit of a problem - two hoarders in the house - but our last move was THE DOWNSIZE. Scary - we had to hire a storage unit (the size of a shipping container) for 3 or 4 months, until we had a large shed erected to house all the boxes of stuff. We sold a lot of our furniture with the last house as it was too tall for the low ceilings in this cottage (a couple of emotional moments there, I have to say). I was sorry to lose the garden most of all, but brought plenty of cuttings and plants with us. We've had a few disasters along the way but hysterical laughter seems to work wonders, along with a stiff G&T or the odd bottle of wine, and an attitude of "If it's meant to be, then it'll go through without a hitch and if it all collapses we'll find something better". This happened at the last minute with this last move, and we're both so glad that the chain collapsed on our planned downsize. We would have hated the cottage we thought we were going to love, and despite a lot of remedial work, this one has proved to be one of the happiest homes we've lived in. Our solicitor was brilliant, and did everything in 5 working days so we didn't have to change the completion date. (Don't let them tell you it can't be done!!!!) Good luck to all those house-movers out there. Keep smiling. You'll be so pleased once it's over and you're settled!!!! Sue

Hi Rach Its certainly a nightmare all this moving stuff. The last time (about 9 months ago)I moved my removal men just didnt show up!!!! Ive never had a feeling quite like that one before I can tell you. Thankfully my very good friend grabbed the phone and just started ringing round until she found someone to help me out...I was in the corner of the room having a breakdown at the time! It all turned out alright in the end though Sheila

Hello, Rach, Know the feeling, you have my deepest sympathy! When we moved down here three years ago, we had problems with both ends of our chain. We were about no 4, and firstly we were notified by no 3 (the people were buying from, that their purchase was in jeopardy because of some unresolved boundary issue between no 2 and his neighbour. Consequently no 1 was getting fed up amd thinking of pulling out altogether. Fortunately that all got resolved. Then no 6, who was a first time buyer, a young woman Oxford graduate due to buy locally in east Wilts, pulled out on the day we were all due to exchange contracts, and went off to buy a sports car instead! As it happened, no 5 (due to buy our house) had already moved into rented accommodation in our neighbourhood, because of getting children started in local schools, so were able to do a deal whereby they rented our house temporarily while they found a new buyer for theirs. Fortunately that only took another few weeks, so were all able to complete and move without too much delay. As Len has said, moving home is one of the 3 big stress factors in life (I've done all three in my time! lol!). Don't let it get you down, it will all work out! Good luck, Philip

Moving house? Why not leave it where it is, and find one in your new location? Or do you think I am being silly? Rob

Rachel I am sure you will be glad to know that, after bereavement and divorce, moving home is the next on the list for most traumatic experiences. On the average, most people move home 3 times in a lifetime. Should have sent you a tape on Stress. Nevertheless, is lovely when all is accomplished. Best wishes Len
