Hi there. At the weekend I am going to visit two family members who I have never met before but what relation are they to me? There Grandmother was my Gt grandmother. Does this make them first cousins once removed? or second cousins sorry to seem so thick but I find sorting out who's who very daunting thanks Lynn

Hi there, Many thanks to all who replied to my thread. You are such a nice bunch to help. Looking forward to my genealogy holiday.. 4 days researching round the villages my fathers side of the family came from. Then as hubby has been so good( hes not into genealogy like me ) its only fair that he does something he fancies for the remainder of the holiday so its 5 days of fishing for him while I sit in the caravan and catch up on some reading matter. I cant tell you how excited I am at the prospect of meeting people I didn't know existed..will let you know how it all went when I get back Lynn

Hello Lynn, Definitely first cousins once removed. I remember having to address my mother's Geordie cousin in the '50s, when I was a small boy, as Cousin Annie. It always sounded funny then, but technically correct! Enjoy your genealogy holiday. Remember doing it some years ago, and it really is very exciting! Envy, envy, envy.... Philip
