mary, go for it,if you're there all day then whats the problem? i had a dog for 15 yrs,she died 3 yrs ago, oh how i miss her!! i've thought of getting another one, but i've got 2 cats now,the older cat grew up with the dog he's 9 yrs old now,the younger one is 3 yrs,she came after the dog,and the older one was'nt to pleased at the time,he's getting on now and the younger one runs at him,he does'nt like it! so he spits at her, but she knows how far to go tho' then backs off. since my dog died the older cat has become very affectionet. good luck with your choice,you must let us know if you get one. chris.

Bichon Frise...nice litle dog...don't moult (but you have to get them clipped), don't need a great deal of exercise. I have a Jack Russell Terror..got lonely once the kids didn't need me so much. You meet so many people when you have a doggie companion! Where do you live Mary...if its near me, I'd be happy to call in for a cuppa! Dee from Bexleyheath X

My mother-in-law lives 3 floors up and has had a hairy sausage dog sort of thing for 4 years. Daisy is great company and the kids love playing with her when they visit. Trouble is, if you do start to go out and find something to interest you, you would have to restrict your time out. M-I-L can only go out for 4 hours maximum and of course, holidays are a problem.

KIng Charles Caviliers make very good lap dogs as do cocker spaniels. The dont need as much exercise as i bigger dog and are excellent companions.

i wouldn't be without my dog, i have to agree in a flat maybe a small one sort of cat size it could then use a litter tray, if ever needed. and why not if you enjoy walking and the company. go for it if thats what you want and be happy sandra

Mary I think it depends if there will be someone around for the dog during the day. We live in a flat two storeys high and couldn't imagine being without a dog. I don't work so I'm here to take her out during the day and there's lots of fields and woodland round our way so she gets plenty of excercise. Shona is only a little dog. i don't think it'd be fair to keep a large dog in a flat. The main thing is if you can give a dog plenty of love and excercise, I'd say go for it.

i would love to have a dog, but i now live in a flat 3 storeys up i'm in the top one . i've had a dog all my life up to a few months ago, now i cant decide what to do,help. i'm in all day nearly every day we have a large field behind us i see people walking their dogs, i guess i just feel lonely.
