To all you computer buffs out there a question Yesterday I was finally installed in the shed in the garden which has been fitted out as my office. However my broadband connection has been put in there for the office computer, it now leaves me with no connection for my "Fun Computer" which I use for GC in the evenings. How can I get BT Broadband on both computers without spending a fortune Any help appeciated Janet |

i no nothing about computers,but does it not work if you unplug the telephone link and put that in your gc computer, or getting a double split telephone point like adding 2 phones as an extension does that make sense sandra |

Not sure how it works but I know someone with 3 computers in her house on Broadband. I would love to know too as hubby is buying me a new one next month (this is son's), so I'll have to find out. |

How about... buy a wireless Broadband router and plug your office PC/broadband modem into that... then get a wireless network card installed into your other pc in the house... both shuoldthen work at the same time (in theory). I have this setup, two latops at home... works brilliantly. Doesn't have to be wireless, can be a standard router, but then you'd have to trail wires round the house... |

I agree with Janice ,it,s easy enough to do ,and basicly only requires a few metres of cable,and a network card.Fred. |

If you just network two computers then one will be host and one client. One will access the internet via the other. This means the computer connected to the net has to be turned on which can be a pain. The best solution is to use a router. The wired only ones are not very expensive ( wireless/wired ones can be had for about 60 pounds if you can stretch to that they are worth the extra for laptops etc) and often have built in firewalls. They are usually very simple to set up for internet sharing. Getting them (the PC's) to talk to each other can be a hassle but you may not care about that. Bob |

Thanks for all the help. I have found now that you can get one of the wireless router things that Paul suggested from BT so will probably go down that road. To just plain network them and have to have the main one on so that I can use the 2nd one seems a bit of a waste of electric and I don't fancy nipping into the shed in the depths of a cold winters night in the early hours just to shut the computer down. Call me crazy if you like but just the thought of that just doesn't do it for me. Knew I could rely on you guys for help. By the way - moving into the shed not an option - something the boys would like no doubt, I like my creature comforts too much Janet |
