Does anyone have any information about St Mary's Workhouse, Liverpool. I have it on a christening IGI record but even the Liverpool Cenral Library Archive section couldn't help. All I seem to be able to find is the workhouse in Brownlow Hill. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Marion, My parents are from Walton and were married in St Marys, I also "work the area". I'll give those sites a go. Cheers Paul Mosedale

Sorry Marion, The site lost me, and I didn't know what to do with the batch number! Paul

Marion, Got there in the end. having checked the batch number, I realised that I already had the IGI record from the family search site. The batch I have is C161122. The C161121 batch covers from 1831 - 1838. The person I am researching was christened in August 1839. I'm still no closer to finding where St Mary Workhouse was though. When searching the internet, nothing comes back with a match. The site for L/pool churches doesn't mention it. I have already checked the baptism records for St Mary's Walton without sucess, my next effort will be a St Marys in Edge Hill I think they had a workhouse nearby! Cheers Paul

Another good workhouse site: http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/index.html typed "liverpool st. mary" in the site's search box, plenty of references to St. Mary's but no workhouses ! The 1881 census for Brownlow Hill is also on this site
