As you know its half term & the kids are home from school. My daughter Connie (5) was playing outside nearly all week ( with my beedy eye on her).....This morning she woke me up at 6;30am scratching her head like mad......Yes headlice again !_______On Monday another little girl who plays & lives in out square, was rakeing at her head & I said to hubby, "I hope she hasn't got lice (in a joke)!" ____________________ so off I went knocking on my neighbours doors, warning them to check their kids hair just in case. I called on the girls mum ( an Indian family...normally we get on ok) Almost immediatly she started having a go, saying " my girl hasnt got headlice. I check her & put that lotion on her ONCE A MONTH !!!! " (you are not supposed to do that as they get immune ! )I told her that her daughter WAS scratching furiously on monday & she told me she hasnt got lice as she only goes to nursary!!!!!!____________________________ I am so Pi***D off that I take time to check my girls hair( I last did it friday after school so she diddnt get it there !)while these people who have had letters about headlice from nursary school, continue to believe their daughter has not got them,_________________ sadly I have now stopped Connie playing with this little girl because of this :o((( Elaine x

Elaine You have my sympathy. They're such a pain especially in little girls with long hair. My girls had them on and off for about a year. Fortunately the neighbours little girl who was giving them to my girls was a very good friend so I used to treat all of them at once. (She hasn't got a Mum and her Dad wasn't exactly on top of things so he was grateful). We found out that it was the child that sat next to our neighbours daughter at school was the one spreading them and not being treated. It's sooooooooooo annoying! Jeanette

Hi Elaine, I know exactly how you feel! My daughter regularly brings home letters from school, saying they`ve had reports of headlice. Most of us check our kids hair regularly, but there are one or two who don`t, which means we clear them up, then these poor kids pass the little critters back round again! By the way, have you noticed that when you talk about lice, it makes your head itch! lol!! Rebecca

I work at a school and we have to be careful not to disciminate against those who have 'little friends!' last week though a teacher discreetly informed the childs parents at home time she had some 'friends' flat denial even when the teacher caught one for them to see as she was talking!!! Penny

I know the feeling well - I comb my daughter's hair every other day, she combs it herself the days in between, yet every time she breaks up from school I have to use some chemical or other to clear them again! I know some kid's hair is apparently more attractive, but I do wish they would bring back the nit-nurse. At least that way every infected child could be treated at the same time and those of us that go through the rigmarole time after time wouldn't get so frustrated! Talking of which....what do you use? I find the only chemical product that does anything at all is Prioderm (at £11 a bottle!!!) and we use leave-in conditioner to comb through. I've asked various pharmcists...one even told me to use Olive Oil (like I'm really going to send her to school looking like she washed her fair in chip fat!!!) but nothing I've tried yet keeps her clear for any length of time. :o(

I dont know if its any good but I noticied a lice repellant spray in Tescos yesterday alongside the kids shampoos. An electronic bug comb works on my daughters hair for the times when I suspect her classmates may have lice. It kills the odd one that has jumped on before it can lay eggs. That and plain old conditioner and a nit comb. Bettaware do a nice one sturdy with a handle! Penny

Sarah I also found that prioderm was the only effective one. We also used tea tree shampoo and conditioner. Although the kids seemed to have them permenantly at one time, I never actually got them. Maybe the little critters don't like blow drying and peroxide! lol Jeanette

I'm with you there Jeanette..I have my hair coloured regularly and use gel wax alot, and I never get them!! They obviously don't like 'products' lol

I Use a good old nitcomb & conditioner, plus an electronic one Babylis for use on wet or dry hair. Used twice a day for a fortnight gets rid of them. Used full marks but lice were back within a week. I now never put that insect repelliant stuff on her anymore. Off shopping now Elaine x
