Lucky you, My grandfather spent 4 years at the front and all I ever heard from my father was abuse regarding him, having spent 24yrs in the services,(my father didnt do any???), I feel that he should have had a little more respect, I have non of his medal, we dont know what happened to them and no service doc's,I do know he suffered from shellshock and drank from the consequences, worst of all I was never allowed to meet him. That really saddens me, so anyone whom has the good fortune to have met any of these old warriors should feel very lucky. Good hunting, regards Len Carter

Well done, Chris, and what a treasure! Look after them! No medals in my family, as far as I'm aware, but similar feelings some years ago when I was family history hunting on the Welsh Marches. Visited a village church where my gg-dad had been vicar in the 1870s. I already had his piccie, but in the vestry while being shown round, I came across a framed manuscript to mark his departure to another parish several years later. It included two cameo framed piccies, one of him, and one of my gg-mum, whose piccie I'd never seen before. Would love to have got my hand on a copy. Have considered asking the parish to borrow it for a while. Still considering! Good hunting! Philip

Know just how you feel! Four years ago I traced my brother in laws medals for him, he had never claimed them after WW2 but his grandchildren were very keen to have them and as they all lived in Australia not an easy task for them so I got the job. My brother in law was still alive at that time so able to give me details and within six months he had them. I was so proud to have helped and grateful that the whole family were able to enjoy them together. Linda

Christopher, I am thrilled for you! I am in the process of applying for my father's WW2 medals, which we believe he never bothered to apply for. We have his WW1 collection. Thank goodness your family didn't get them as far as the saleroom! Elisabeth xx

Greetings and salutations I had a phone call this evening from my Uncle , he was cleaning out his attic this afternnon and came across a silver box that contained two medals, he thought that they had little value and was going to send them to a local sale room. His wifes brother was going to take them and some other stuff to the sale room for them, when he noticed that they were named to George Daniel Vernon Talbot (my Grandfather) and phoned my uncle to make sure that he wanted to send them for sale. When he realised what they actualy were and knowing that I was researching my family history he phoned me and asked me if I wanted them!!!!! Well to say the least my gast had never been so flabbered. The medals are mine for the collecting, To think that they had been forgoten in the attic for many years and that they almost went to a sale room just goes to prove miricles do happen. They will now join my fathers WW2 medals. sorry if this has been abit self indulgent and rambling but I just had to share the news. Yours Chris
