Thanks everyone you have cheered me up no end.I went to Astley Hall this afternoon to look at 1861 1871 censuses for these damned Shufflebottoms they were at 48 North Road in 1870 but not in 1871 and in 1860 North road didn't go as far as 48. but then I came home and started on my Baxendales and thought I had found my Great grans parents (that kept me going all through tea then I cheked the dates and it was right name right place totally wrong date but at least it gave me a good laugh. I mean lets face it I am here so I must have some anscesters AND I WILL TRACK THEM DOWN ONE DAY SO THERE!!!!! Dedrah

Hi Dedrah - What are you like? Eight years on and I still can't find my grandfathers birth. The family were travellers and were born, married died in every county in England. You think you have problems. Don't let the beggars grind you down. ONE DAY! Regards Eileen

Dedrah It has taken me over 12 months to find my grandfather's birth and his family and only then by tracing my greataunt, NEVER ever give up, if you did give up it would still niggle until you searched again. Try looking for his brothere or sisters to get a bit more of the background. If he comes from away, join the Family History Society for that area, on the application form it usually asks for interests (names). I have had success this way.

I can totally sympathise!! I have the same problem on my dad's side for both his parents!! Cant get further back than 3xgrandparents. Mum's mum's side is a nightmare too as they are all Mc or Mac's!!! Maybe we could just be related to each other (worth a try!! lol) or maybe its just the men's side the are the awkwards ones!! I'm not giving up tho...even if I have to cross the border to see if they actually originated in England! Keep searching.... Jill x

I've found that just when I think it's all over and theres no way I can get past the mountain of a brick wall in front of me a tiny clue presents itself and the wall just falls around my ears. Keep trying..look at other rellies..search out the clues and remind yourself it's all there you just have to keep picking away at it. Sheila

I am having trouble finding my Dads birth details, I have managed to find out when his Father died. My Dad had a newspaper cutting in his wallet. But, I have tried everything I think to find out anything about my Dad. So like you I am thinking of giving up.

No such thing as giving in gracefully in this game! Just move on to some other branch and wait for inspiration to strike! Angela
