Does anyone living in Essex know of Tolleschurst d Arey. The 1901 census shows my G/Grandparents were born there in the 1860s but can't find any info on the internet about it Thanks Brenda

Hello Brenda, I'm not from Essex, but I recognise the name from visits to the county many years ago. Tolleshunt D'Arcy is a small village just south of Tiptree, off the main A12 London - Chelmsford road, and close to the River Blackwater. Neighbouring villages include Tolleshunt Knights and Tolleshunt Major. Philip

You might like these sites http://www(.)btinternet(.)com/~ianrose82/chind1(.)htm http://www(.)essexvillages(.)net/ http://www(.)esfh(.)org(.)uk/ http://www(.)kevw(.)net/ Don't forget to remove the brackets! Maz. XX PS The 1901 birthplace has either been mis-spelled or mis-transcribed - not difficult to understand if the ennumerator had never heard of Tolleshunt D'arcy !!

Brenda If you would like to see it on a map go to www(.)streetmap(.)co(.)uk leaving out the brackets, then select "GB Place" then type in "Tolleshunt D'Arcy". The area map will then be produced with the place arrowed. Len
