Fogot to say....the neighbour has gone to Vancouver for a month, and i dont know where the outside stopcock is. I am going to ring the waterboard and ask he hypethetical question, I have just realised that I have insurance for this sort of thing,!!

It's the householder's responsibility if the leak is on the house side of the external stopcock (normally near the property boundary), the water board's if it's on the road side of the stopcock. Even if it's on the house side she may have insurance, although from your posting I doubt it. Can you turn the stopcock off, if the leak's on the house side that will stop the leak and she can sort it when she returns.

I think it depends where the leak is exactly as to who is liable. You should only be liable if the leak is on your land, not just if you phone. It may be that the water board is liable but they will tell you. Ann Glos

My neighbour is away and there is a water leak in her front garden,,,the water is seeping under the fence and into my drive, If I ring the Water Board,,,am I liable for the payment for the repair? I have to add that this neighbour is well known for wanting to 'share' any repair bills which come her way, she once asked me to contribute to the unblocking of her toilet ,,just because the manhole is in my drive,,!!
