house exchange - holidays

Have you ever swopped your house with another family for a holiday? I have done this twice with 2 different families in Scotland, and both times have been pleased with the exchange. I first read through letters and then phoned one or two, eventually picking out one I thought suitable. It's a bit like job interviewing.

Sylvia, Have thought about doing this but don't know how to go about it. Did you go through an agency (which I understand are quite expensive) or did you advertise in local newspapers?

Hi Kathy, I put an ad in the Daily Telegraph and as I said I read all the replies and picked a few out. I rang the ones I thought suitable. The one family we exchanged with I arranged a half-way stop in York and was able to meet them personally. This saves all the inbetween-man taking his share! I locked nothing up and left all linen, and they did too. I think you can judge a person from his handwriting. Of course these days there is the computer, but it's the way they write! If you are interested in Holland, just let me know. Sylvia xx
