We had the opportunity in the 70's to be 'extras' in a film called 'Buffalo Bill and the Indians' starring Paul Newman, Burt Lancaster and Ida Lupino. The film was shot on an Indian Reserve near Calgary. Burt Lancaster wanted to hire a BMW from our dealership and invited the whole firm to be extras. Had a great couple of days dressed up like old Western families and talked to both guys. They had a wicked sense of humour. Ida Lupino broke her arm when she fell off a horse and had to film with a cast on. Would never want to be a film star! Totally boring and frustrating job having to repeat the same scene over and over because (on several occaisions) an Indian or a cowboy who was 'shot' in a stage coach hold up scene got up before the cameras finished rolling. I feel for those who traveled out west as settlers. We had to ride for two miles in Red River wagons to pretend we were 'going to town to watch Buffalo Bill's show. Got to be the roughest trip anyone could make - no shocks on those things! Never did see the film - think it must have been one of the worst they made.

These were the real film stars ,they had that [something] ,and some of them ,like Newman got better as they grew older, trouble is ,none of these new stars have it ,they were a class on their own.Fred.

Am watching a film on C5, an aging Paul Newman stars as Father to Kevin Costner. Even at his age he outshines. Those beautiful blue eyes are still there. Still Butch Cassidy to me!!!
