where,s your sense of adventure eileen, out with the shovel ,and bucket and follow your nose,if you go early in the morning you could even find some mushies for breakfast lol. The dried chicken manure is good stuff,but DON,T handle it without gloves on,and dont put a lot on or it will burn the roots and kill the plants.Fred.

Thanks Lee for the advice. I do water them before I go to work in the morning and again after tea. Would say they get a good big drink each time but not saturating them. Freds right as well, our weather been bad especially here in Scotland it has been dreadful recently. Will have to find out where I could get sheep manure from. Garden centre had chicken manute but havent seen the sheeps stuff. Dont fancy scouring the fields around here with a bucket! lol

Thanks for the advice Fred I live up in Manchester We have grown (me and 8 year old) loads of different varieties but forgot to put labels on them all Not too worry it will be like a lucky dip. he he We have grown some red peppers too not from seed but bought plants they have flowered and I presume thats where the peppers come from. Heres to our own toms then :) Jan x

morning Lee,i could have done with knowing you a couple of years ago ,when i had a huge garden ,i could have done with a load of what you use on the garden as i agree with you ,apart from chicken s ,sheep manure is the best there is. We are having weather problems this year though ,still getting frosts,and one place had snow three days ago? .so outdoor tom,s ain,t doing well as yet.your weather is far better than ours for that.Fred.

Hi Eileen, This is Rita's hubby Lee, I don't think you are giving them enough water & you need to give them a ltr everyday & put sheep manure around the base, I am growing tomatoes here in oz during the winter outside & all I do is sheep manure & water. Water the sheep manure around the plant. Lee (Oz)

Fred, Going to take your advice with the bomb. I think its blight. Definitely not tobacco problem as we don't smoke. Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate it. Eileen

youre plants should be fine flowering depends a lot on variety and where u are in the country ,the further north the longer it takes the flowers to start.Please do not start to feed until you see the little fruits and then water and feed at regular intervals to stop blossom end rot.Have fun .Fred.

This is my first year of growing tomatos too! We have grown them from seed and they live in those mini greenhouses and seem to be growing really well but they have no flowers yet is this right? I would have thought they should have by now Jan x

If it is blight eileen it,s easy seen to but not this season.Once the greenhouse is totaly empty light a bomb ,put it in the greenhouse and shut it up ,leave for 24 hours by which time any virus ,spores and disease will be dead, and next season will be fine.the last time i was in a garden centre the bombs were still on sale ,but by now they could be in an airosol form,Fred.

you could have damping off disease,look round the stem at soil level.are the stems shrunken and black? overwatering causes this in early weeks.Fred.

Hello Eileen, Could the problem be tobacco?. My Dad(out at the Port) smokes a pipe and has to be careful when he cuts up his tobacco, or refills his pipe, that he washes his hands right after as tobacco/smoking goes for them. Cheers........Marion.

Eileen, I think most of these diseases are airborne. Remember if you have to get rid of them DON'T put them in the compost heap, in case they are diseased. It will only spread it. Can anyone advise. I got three well established tomato plants. They were doing great until one of them started showing signs of dying. Leaves started with beige coloured spots which eventually joined up and then withered the leaves. One is definitely dead and the other one has started now too. I've taken the third out of greenhouse into conservatory. Other plants in greenhouse are fine?? Any suggestions?
