In one of our national newspapers yesterday there was an article which read something like this: British football fans, some 1500 of them, have been bashing up residents on Jersey. Apparently people from Jersey originated from Portugal many years ago. I didn't know this. How terrible sportsmanship to want to bash up innocent people because England lost to the Portuguese at football. I felt quite sick when I read this article. These residents hardly know that they descended from Portugal. I still can't believe this can happen. What did our fathers and grandfathers fight for in the last wars - these hooligans! Sylvia

Sylvia, This is from the Jersey News - doesn't read quite like it does in your newspaper! Football disturbance charges ELEVEN people have been charged with offences as a result of the serious disturbance in Minden Place on Thursday night, including a 15-year-old Jersey boy. He is accused of assaulting a police officer and breach of the peace and will appear before the Youth Court on Monday. Of the remaining ten, four are Madeirans and the others either from Jersey or England. The accused are: Ian Anthony Houghton (29), Lee Bryan Daniel Allison (18), Rui Rogerio Barreto (26), Shane Aaron Langley (33), David Alan Couillard (23), Andrew Alan Modral (19) and a 17-year-old man, who have all been charged with breach of the peace or conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. Franklin da Silva Teixeira (27) has been charged with obstructing police, Jose Luis Silva Mendonca (21) with breach of the peace and assaulting a police officer and Paulo Abriel de Abreu Agular (25) has been charged with being drunk and disorderly and obstructing police. Emma.

Thanks for letting me read what the Jersey newspaper said. It makes you wonder sometimes where they get their info from. I've cut the piece out of the newspaper here and am keeping it. I thought 1500 hooligans sounded too many. Jersey is not so big.

I'm off on my first visit to Jersey for a birthday trip next month, so I'll let you know how many yobs I come across. Now, where's that Charlie Hungerford? lol! Philip
