Don't forget - anyone who is able to come along - we will be meeting at 12.00 at the Blacksheep stall. If for any reason Blacksheep don't turn up (!) then meet at the Kent Family History Society Medway stall instead. Maz. XX

Sounds fun, I'll see if I can make it (going to Winchester on Friday.)

What goes on at these fairs then ? Being a newbie I'll look into anything to help me further. Being a Smith makes it hard work at the best of times ! Non-Smith ancestors marrying Smiths makes it even harder !! What were they thinking of ....!!!!

Sorry. You know how it is. You always forget the tourist attractions on your own doorstep !! Yes the Chatham Historic Dockyard is open to the public most days. With historic ships and 1960's submarine. You can see how rope is made (it's more interesting than it sounds !!), or just wander round the museum and enjoy the archtecture of the place. Nearby is Fort Amhert a huge Napoleonic defence system of tunnels which often stages re-enactments from the era. Also there is the Royal Engineers Museum full of tanks and such. I'm sure with time I'll think of more. Alternatively, head out into the Kent countryside a find some nice old-fashioned pubs !

Is there not anything to see at the Dockyard Adrian?? I thought they had sort of 'done it up' to be a bit of a tourist attraction?? Would be interested to know! Maz. XX

Sally Rochester is nicer (around the Castle and Cathedral at least) than Chatham, but Chatham has the better shopping facilities. Although with Bluewater just up the road it's mostly "poundshops" ! Are you going to the Naval Memorial ? Easy to see from the town (it's on a hill above) it's a bit awkward to get to by car, through a maze of ex-military housing estate roads. It also closes early due to vandals after dark. If you need any info on directions/parking etc feel free to e-mail me as I live within spitting distance (well a few mins walk) from the memorial.

Just noticed this message. Can't go to the fair, but can someone tell me what Chatham's like? We are going there at the end of July to see my Great Uncle's war memorial. Is Chatham itself nice? We plan to go to Rochester cathedral, but wonder if Chatham is worth a bit more time?

Myself and Sue from Kent are hoping to get to the Family History Fair at Chatham ,is any one else going. We have come up with the idea of reconising our friends to make up a badge with our christian names on with G/C or G/C on it or a time and a certain place to meet. Never was very good at putting words together Sue. From Margaret and Sue from Kent
