Debi Coone Report 2 Jul 2004 10:24

I changed schools half way through the second year of High School - my parents had just divorced - I was off to boarding school and the head teacher wrote on my last report card: A private education will be wasted on this child . She was a mother herself surely she realised I was mixed up LOL! Anway it wasn't , I became a company director of a rather large Recruitment Consultancy - sadly the teacher in question passed away before I could say Eat Your Words LOL!! Much happiness Debi

As a manager at work I was always taught that the final paragraph should be 'uplifting'. i.e. find something good to say, like a sweet to take away the bad taste. I don't think our teachers were taught that. They seemed to think (in the 50s) that if they praised you too much you would sit on your laurels and not try any more. Ann Glos

'less gossiping , more work', was always there. In Art class I once had, 'is too individual in her style, needs to conform to the course work'!!!!!!!!!! How, I argued with my 50 plus year old teacher, can you be 'too individual' when it comes to art?? ;-)

My last report from primary school was on a single sheet of paper (unlike my sons' A4 booklets). It said ENGLISH - written work needs more detail and finesse. MATHS - lacks confidence. GENERAL STUDIES (History, Georgraphy, Nature, Scripture)- seems disinterested. ART & CRAFT - C [not even a comment!] PHYSICAL EDUCATION & GAMES - lacks effort. How negative and depressing is that? I actually got 75% in my English exam. Even the one positive remark in General Comment ends on a sour note: "Shows outstanding imaginative and dramatic ability. Must bring equal enthusiasm to other subjects". What a contrast to today, when every subject my sons' do has a paragraph dedicated to praising their efforts! How I long to say to my class teacher - guess what, I got a Masters' Degree and no one on the course told me off for talking! Helen

Mags Report 1 Jul 2004 13:13

My games mistress wrote 'Hockey - good but lacks foresight' in other words I used to belt up the pitch with the ball and have no-one to pass it to. She also noted 'PE good but at times rather uncontrolled' I never have been able to work out quite what that meant!!! My art mistress was my favourite she said ' Excellent shows real feeling for the medium' I thought I was going to a seance lol

mine used to say i was easliy distracted and could talk less! My kids have just got their reports,my oldest one is following in my footsteps, his says Jacob can work hard but is easily distracted and if he talked less,he would be able to get more tasks done! My kids finish school today at 12.30 for summer holidays :-( Anna :-)
