Hi Jay, I'm going to be 46 this month. I have had a brilliant time since I was 40. The children are old enough to look after themselves, we have a fantastic social life, I have gone back to a great job, I am so much more confident and I think I look better than I have done for ages because I now have more time to look after myself!!!!!! I never worried about being 40 and now I know you're as old as you feel - I feel about 25. Just got to sort out those wrinkles now......

jay no advise but im joining you, kicking and screaming that is. my brother asked me if i was celebrating my birthday next week, i said no i am so depressed at being 40, he laughs. hubby wants to put up banners and balloons, though in january he had a strope because i was going to put them up for him, needless to say i didnt bother at risk of upsetting him. maybe we could all hide on here GC for the day.

dee that made me laugh, your sense of humour about sainsburys, after reading through the threads i remembered(my minds getting foggy lately, i blame the headaches, lol). i was taking my daughter to work a few weeks back early in the morning, every morning we would pass this attractive young guy walking for the bus. He began to smile everytime we passed him, thnking he was looking at my 17 year old with long blonde hair, we smiled and kept going. one morning i came back down the road and he was waiting and waved to stop me, me being gullable thought, shit somut wrong with car. he said, you got to let me take you out one night, i stuttered but im married, i thought you were eyeing up my daughter, im 39. he said, im 28, i would like to take you out. i insisted i couldnt im married and would never do that to hubby. oh and i forgot to mention he was 11 years younger than me. i was so flattered i couldnt stop smiling all day thinking about it. its quite sad that a little thing like that makes me like a teenager again. he seemed so nice and gently spoken. opps im reminising there, sorry to bore you all, i do go on.

Don't worry about it Jay. I'm 39 next month and looking forward to my fortieth. Being 30 was a different matter. A few days after THAT birthday, I was lying in bed and it hit me that I had hitthis BIG milestone in life. I CRIED! Since then, I have enjoyed life more in so many different ways. Can't wait until next year. As someone has already said, you're only a day older than the day before. Some, like my friend don't make it to their 40th birthday ( he died last year with leukaemia ... 37 yrs old ). Enjoy life to the full. Age is only a number

I think Helen and Valley said it best. Age is a state of mind and my mum, who was 70 odd, was the youngest person I know. I also have a neighbour who is 79 and she is like an excited child; it's within you to be positive.! For my sins, I'm f-a-s-t approaching 50.. Have a good day everybody! Cathy ~~

Party, Party, Party - that's ONLY way to do 40!!!!! Hoping the same advice will hold good for my 50th which is now not as far away as 40!! Was also delighted to discover I was pregnant for the first time not long after I turned 40 - and wonderful as my small son is, that's probably something I think I'll pass on for my 50th!!!!!!!

I am now 47. When I was approaching 40 I decided to have a big party, but all of a sudden found myself giving birth to my first child, which gave me a whole new lease of life. Can recommend this to take your mind off being 40, you won't know what day it is let alone how old you are!!! Regards Liz

Thanks everyone, I think I might give some of them a miss if you don't mind. Don't think becoming a mum again at 40 would be a goog idea, lol especially as my hubby has had the snip and was doubly made sterile from chemo treatment lol. thanks anyway Jay
