My mother-in-law was Elsie, not short for anything. Names do get modified according to fashion, though! Michael (in Dundas (Ontario))

Don't think it's short for anything, it's a name in it's own right. I suppose you may have someone with the name Eloise, not sure if that spelt right. Val
