They are a great lot Brian ,nothing gets them down for long and there is a great community spirit in most of the local areas.Their idea of a funeral is a lot like the irish wake,a celebration of the life of the deceased and the moving on to the next stage ,rather than the demise.My grandads ,was a bit like that ,people even came from his old regiment to see him off though the lord only knows how they found out.Fred.

hi maz,thanks for your reply....we were in thornton heath,south london,not really cockney district,but everyone was council tennants,and called a spade,a spade,they all looked out for each other,nothing was too much trouble for them,and the nice thing about it was they were bringing up there kids in the same way...lots of them were millwal supporters,who get a bad write up,but if your in trouble,they are the first to help you.....bryan.

My father's family are from London. My husband's are from Wales. I've been to several Welsh funerals now, where you stand on the top of a mountain next to an open grave, singing in Welsh while the wind threatens to blow you away. The village - Llangynwyd - has a huge graveyard with wonderful names - Moses Morgan and Eynon Beynon. Helen

the english side of my family are london cockneys,ive sort of looked in from the outside,not really feeling at home,having spent most of my life,in my beloved wales. but today was my uncles funeral,the procession stopped outside his local pub,and over a hundred people stood there,heads bowed in respect. there were about two dozen of us ,all family,but when we got to the cemetary,they were standing there,four deep. afterwards,there was a function laid on,at his local,free of charge,the regulars had all dipped in their pockets,and paid for it. as we left,about two hours later,the whole pub stood up,and clapped us,as we walked out..it was one of the most emotional moments of my life. cockneys are the salt of the earth,god bless them! bryan.
