Gwynne Last time I was in Wales we drove through Cardigan to get to somewhere else. I would have loved to have stopped as it looked such a lovely place. Unfortunately it was our last day so I never got to see it. If I'm ever back that way I will be sure to stop. And a trip to Cardigan Castle will be on the agenda for sure! Jeanette

Hi Jeanette, I think The National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth won't let go of its crown as the genealogical centre of Wales! It's a fantastic place with all a Welsh researcher's heart could desire! It's only 30 miles north of Cardigan as well. I think the local people should decide what to do with the castle but a genealogy centre for the local area would be a very good idea - as part of the whole scheme. I think a lot of locals favour a living museum with examples of crafts etc from the area. It's also proposed as a tourist centre as tourism is very important to the town. A genealogy centre would tie in with this. The site is quite large so there should be room. I've been visiting the town for 20 years and last Easter was the first time I was able to go behind the gates. The ruined mansion was worthy of Dickens' Miss Haversham! Anyone interested in keeping up to date on the castle can read the local paper's website. If you put Tivyside Advertiser into your search engine you'll find it. VOTE FOR CARDI CASTLE!!! Gwynne

Liz If you take a look at the website above all the info and pictures are on there. Gwynne What do you think of the idea of it being the centre of genealogy for Wales? When restored would it be a good setting? Jeanette

Hi, I will vote for Cardigan Castle. We visit the area regularly and at Easter went to look around the castle and the remains of the mansion. It is in a lovely setting but much neglected by its previous owner. There are lots of enthusisatic volunteers helping out but it really needs BIG money to restore it. Gwynne

Thought there might have been some interest in this seeing as though we're all into old relics in one way or another! lol

Did anybody watch the BBC programme Restoration last year? I've just been having a look at this years contenders and there's some lovely old buildings all, once again, worthy of winning. There is a place in Wales called Cardigan Castle (in Cardigan would you believe! lol) and although they haven't mad any definite decisions as to what it's final use will be, one suggestion is for it to be the National Centre for Welsh Genealogical Research. Go to www(.)bbc(.)co(.)uk/restoration for a look at the contenders. Jeanette
