Bridget LOL! Anne, I'd always read that about going lighter as you get older and I certainly agree; it goes better with your skin tone for some reason. I'm very dark brown and started going grey at 18 - no way was I going to be grey at that age so I started colouring it and never looked back! Only had one or two mistakes where I went too red, but have now gone a shade or two lighter than when I was young. Going by the state of my roots from time to time, I'd be pretty grey if I let the colour grow out and having just hit 40, I'm trying everything possible to keep my youth (not sure it's working though) LOL. Mandy :))

I have ginger hair (not so ginger as when I was younger, but still red) and I have a "mallon streak" - or a "Dickie Davis" - depending on who is commenting on it. Most people think I have spent a fortune on hairdressing bills having streaks put in! Unfortunately, the sides are now trying to join the "mallon streak" I just noticed them last week. Wont dye it red though, just lighten it perhaps - apparently it's more flattering to go lighter as you get older, although as I'm not particularly vain I doubt very much that I will bother - just let nature take is course - cheaper if nothing else. My 6 year old grandaughter and I were discussing hair colours. "So and so is blonde", she said, "and I am brown haired". "I'm blonde too", I said. "Oh no Grandma, your hair is white". "No", I said, "ash blonde!". "No, no, no Grandma, definitely white", she said. All these years I've been kidding myself I was still blonde! LOL Sue

My hair was light brown when I was a little girl, but has gradually got darker over the years - just so the grey will show up better I suppose! I did have blonde highlights a couple of times and am thinking of doing this again. The main change I have found as I approach my 5th decade is that my skin is so dry. Still at least I've still got all my teeth!

I have grey/white hair with only a little natural colour left of light brown. I found my first white hair at the age of 16. I was a hairdresser for years and have been every colour under the sun. Since I left hairdressing I haven't coloured my hair, I can't be bothered! Viv.

Love the badgers bum expression. Its better to go lighter rather than darker when you have loads of grey and getting on a bit! I've been having blond hi-lites for the past year and its much better, suits my complexion better now I'm in me best years ha ha. Lynda

lynn i'm 42 and have been dying my hair since i was 19, due to the grey, i'm a dark blonde but dye it chestnut brown, now though i am thinking of getting lighter shades as your skin tone changes as you get older, high lights and low lights mean you don't have to colour your hair as much as the grey blends in, but whatever colour you are it doesn't matter so long as your happy lol sandra ps i have been loads of colours

Lynne Mine is white, I used to be blond and I hated it so I used to darken it, but now if I attempt to colour it, the sun bleaches it straight away so there isn't much point, so now I've just accepted it apparently its only true blonds that go this colour

Not sure what colour my hair is now, been colouring it for too long. I dare not let it grow out too much now, it looks very grey. Prefer to keep it a "natural" dark blonde colour! Maggy

Now not wanting to sound rude but how many members would openly say they have grey hair. when I was a teenager I used to dye my hair a golden blonde ( natural colour was mid brown) then as I grew older I went to reddish browns but the odd grey hairs were showing. Over a period of time I had to dye it more often or I would get what my neighbour called "the mallon streak". Well some time ago I thought I would lighten my hair and done it over a period of time to a ash colour. The last time I done this was in March, and have since had all the ash cut out but where I thought my own hair was grey it seems to be a light blonde colour all very strange and I am not going to have to dye my hair ever again Lynn
