penny..for once i cant wait too!!! BUT thats because my son mason will be going school full time straight after WHAY!! its been so long in coming as he'll be five on the 8th sept so ive had to wait another year,he's too boistrous and time demanding but i love him dearly but it will be nice to spend some QT with my little un...Logan who's 18mths old.although his big sister natalia wnt be too pleased sharing the playground with him.hope the hols go soundly for all the mothers out there!!!xx

My son at school over the border in Wiltshire breaks up next Tuesday, but here in Somerset we have to go on till the Friday. I too was quite surprised at the number of people on here who work in schools. I'm a school administrator and I love the job, although like Helen says, the last couple of weeks are really hectic. I have so many deadlines to meet but I'm not complaining because it will be lovely to have almost 6 weeks off. I'm going to do some of the things that you have already mentioned - serious genealogy (!), no rushing round in the mornings, reading some good books, and relaxing by the sea in our new holiday home. I've always enjoyed the school holidays, my son is pretty good company and I'm making the most of having time with him as he's nearly 16 now. I hope you all have a good summer break. Mandy :))

We're into our second week of the school holidays and sofar it's not been too bad, except for the weather. What I want to know is, why is it on school days you can hardly get the kids out of bed yet in the holidays, when you hope for a lie-in, you can bet they're up at sunlight!!!!?? Christine

Deep joy (not). I have to work full time even when the kids are off - except for the 2 weeks of leave I've booked in August for once. My child care costs rocket during holidays so I'm skint as well as fed up that they're off and I can't spend time with them. Angela

i also work in a school and can't wait, no 4-5 year olds crying for their mums, no little accidents in the loos, no fights to deal with, heaven melanie

I have always enjoyed the childrens' holidays, but found it difficult to entertain them all the time. However, 2 years ago my Mum moved to a mobile home in Dorset, and we have never looked back. We go every holiday, and the children (10,8,6 and 2 years) absolutely love it. It is based on a small site with indoor and outdoor pools, entertainment in the evening, plus kids' clubs during the day. My three older ones have their bikes there, so spend all day on the beach, riding, swimming, playing football, rounders, cricket, tennis, and generally enjoying a freedom they would not have at home. I am only 40, but even I remember being able to spend a lot more time outside than most kids of today can. They have made a whole new set of friends there whom they meet up with each holiday. We don't always spend every night at the club house; particularly last year with the balmy evenings. Our three were out and about playing with other children their age, until the sun went down. With going to bed later than normal, they always sleep in, which is absolute bliss and another bonus. There are countless places of interest to visit, but they can be expensive, yet the kids are just as happy to stay on the site. I find I spend no more money than I would on house-keeping at home. I'm saving up to buy our own mobile home....we don't want to out-stay our welcome at Nannie's!! If your numbers come up on the Lottery, forget a villa in Spain. Buy yourself a little bit of freedom on the English coast.

I work in a school and I am counting the hours. Last week of term is always hectic, instead of winding down as I think we should, we've got sports day, leavers' assembly, cards to make for various staff who are going etc. Not to mention wangling time off to go to sons' schoool sports day etc. I am looking forward to : Not getting up every morning and nagging about school uniform, lunch boxes, PE kit, swimming gear, homework...and NOT going to my place of work and nagging about school uniform, lunch boxes, PE kit, homework, etc. Being able to get out and do some gardening Having long lunches with friends I haven't seen for ages Having late nights knowing I can have a lie-in next day Getting on with tracing my family tree and visiting some record offices/places my relatives lived Taking my children up to London for treats and treating myself too!

Mine break up from school this Friday 16th July. It seems early this year but I for one cant wait. I love having them at home and the break from the routine of the school run and after school clubs is a big relief. How do you all feel about the impending holidays? Penny
