Lisa What a shame your mam's cousin wouldn't share the info from the bible with you, maybe there is something in it she didn't want others to know about. But it does make things very hard. I have managed to go back to 1750's with mine, coming from Tideswell in Derbyshire but have now hit a brick wall. She I haven't heard of any Oven's in Scotland but will give your suggestion a try, so thanks for that. Margaret

Margaret, we are fairly certain mine came from Fermanagh, Ireland, but the lady (my mum's cousin) who had the family bible refused to share anything. That was 25 years ago; I'm fairly sure she isn't around any more and I don't know who her family members are. With the help of a couple of GC people, I have learned a bit about my Ovens, however. Yes I have looked at different spellings as I know from experiance the way Oven gets spelt wrong, with it being my maiden name I have seen them all, but so far I have been lucky with my tree as most of the time it has been spelt right with just the odd time someone has put an S on the end. What I am hoping to find is some else that is tracing an Oven family as at the moment it looks like a dying name. But thanks for your input, do you know where yours came from? Margaret

Hi Margaret. We have Ovens (plural) ancestors. It's not a common name, either. Have you tried varying the spelling? My gt-grandfather's birth certificate showed his father's name as Owens. Perhaps you might find something under Owen. Good luck, I know the frustration.

Thanks but I have tried that and the only reply to them all was one who said that there Oven was just one that was a marriage connection, they were not following the Oven tree which was a shame. Two of the Oven's on that list were born in my area after me and so far I have had no reply from them either. But I keep hoping. That is why I thought I would put up this message. Margaret

Margaret, there are 32 Ovens on this site. If you put the name into the search box on the right it'll bring them up for you. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a connection. Christine

Am I the only one trying to find my Oven family's? everywhere I look no one seems to be doing an Oven tree, yet I have found countless Oven's on the IGI for Liverpool, Yorkshire, Manchester and Derbyshire (mine) yet no one doing those tree's. So please if there is anyone tracing the Oven family let me know. So that I am not on my own I don't even know of any living Oven's apart from my brother and his family, it would be good to hear that the name is still living on even if its not mine. Margaret.
