Hi, You do not say how long your Dad has been waiting for op? I waited almost 2 years to have my heart op, had two metal valves to replace mitral & aorta. Was in a poor state before it was done, in The London Chest Hospital, an ancient place, but can not fault the medical side, they cared for me very well, I was in intensive care & high dependcy for 10 days, and care was excellent. My heart performs well now cannot fault that, unfortunately it was discovered whilst I was in there, that I had undiagnosed osteoporis (this was found after my spine fractured) had not scans etc and now on treatment for that, but heart op has fortunately given me the strength to cope. Hope your Dad gets word of his op soon, do`t give up hope.

You can't help but worry but the outcome is usually just great and your father obviously has a very positive attitude and isn't letting this get him down. My father in law had the op. at 80+ and lives life to the full including visiting his daughter in Italy. A friend's husband had the op. earlier this year, similar circumstances to your story, ie. unexpected outcome of a check up. I saw him this last weekend and he looks so well and has recently returned to work. I hope all goes well and that you dad doesn't have to wait too long.

Hi Fee try not to worry to much, in a way your dad is saying he's not giving in, by continuing to do things, he's a fighter although the family will worry,he could have just sat down and said sod it. I hope the appointment comes through quickly, and your dad is ok take care sandra

Hi Julie, Best wishes to your husband, hope he is recovering well.I cant really keep an eye on my dad,my parents live in N.Ireland and me and my family live in Yorkshire but he is sensible enough(I hope!) to know that he should be careful in what he eats, although they are KFC customers! I just hope he is quite far up the waiting list.He is due to go into The Royal Victoria in Belfast,I know its a good hospital and his surgeon has an excellent reputation. Its just a waiting game though, isnt it?

My dad is on a waiting list for a triple bypass and I am constantly worried that he may never get the chance to go for it.He is generally okay, gets on with his everyday life, doing everything he used to and thats the problem.I worry that he will do too much,my mum is afraid he will just collapse(Her sister collapsed and died with a heart attack) and we dont want to keep going on at him because it will worry him and he is worried himself and scared of the unknown. He was just going for a routine appointment for antibiotics for a chest infection and they picked up on this.Totally unexpected.Anyone else going or gone through this?I think I know too much,I have been nursing for ten years and its a bit close to home.
