I'm from Blackpool too, I would recommend that with 2 young children, you stay either South or North shore, Central is busy and NOISY, lots of teenagers. The illuminatioms do go right across the front, quite a few miles, the best ones for children are the tableaus at Bispham (which is the northern end of Blackpool) quite a nice area to stay, if you like it a bit quieter. At the tram terminus which is just south of the pleasure beach, you can get on one of the illuminated trams, there are 2 or 3 , there's a rocket, steam boat and others, these will take you the full length of the illuminations. Contact Blackpool Tourist information for vacancies as soon as possible because it does get busy. I hope you enjoy your stay. June

Hi my family stayed in Lythan St Annes to see the lights which is not too far from Blackpool and very nice. The name of the Hotel was Chadwich Hotel which was quite old fashioned in a nice way, the staff very good and a small indoor pool and games room for the kids. My boys are 13 and 11 and they loved this hotel it also has the beach opposite and a pier with old fashioned machines. The hotel gave us a family room to sllep 5 which was good value. We have also stayed in Premiere Lodges in the past and I belive they have one in Lytham St Annes. Our stay at the Chadwick was approx 2 years ago so I presume it is still the same.
