I have only been a member for a week. Yesterday I got serious, logged on to 1837online, paid my 5.00 pound ( sorry no pound sign in Oz) 25 minutes later money gone and no results. Can any one tell me which is the cheapest and most efficient way to trace my family tree? I live in Australia and only have a pension. ( i was born in England as were all my family, I think) I could spend all day on this site, but I must make some effort with the Family tree.

Try checking out the LDS site (free) at www.familysearch(.)com - Remove the ( ) from the address and you can find some great sites listed by member on the TIPS BOARD - Best Web Sites. Happy hunting! Judy :)

Judy mentioned a great site, but be careful. I've found the parish records and other official records to be accurate, but records that others have contributed can be incorrect. It's a wonderful site to start with, though. Are you searching in a particular area in the UK? There are websites for different counties. Also, when I joined, two people told me about "google" searches. Type in your ancestor's name, and any other information you know (dates, occupations, places, etc.) and you MAY get results. Good luck and welcome!!
