St Marys Island springs to mind,Holy Island,great for a picnic on the beach and exploring rock pools. Bewick is very popular,with the young ones ,plenty to do around the river side,you could even try the sunderland air show this weekend ,if you have transport.but any where out with the kids is the place to be .Fred.

Alnmouth and Bamburgh beaches are great!! Alnwick Castle/Gardens are good value when you have the season ticket.
