Clackers were banned in the early 80's due to alot of broken wrists but there is newer version now with plastic strips instead of string. They don't work the same ..it took me ages to get them up to the speed I used to be able to go in the 1970's (maybe it's me though!) The make up doll that I remember was Mary Quant Sheila

What about fisher price record players, major morgan, 'simon', weebles, girlsworld, lego, roller skates/boots (no blades back then!), or just old fashioned 'playing out', playing marbles...... those were the days! Now my 1 and 3 year old play xbox! I got my first computer (Texas Instruments TI99 4A) the christmas when I was 9. It took ages for the games on the tape to load and just when you thought it had finished up came a 'tape loading error' and you had to start again! Oh Joy! Joanne

anyone remember the atari games.which had a line on each side and they used to have tennis which involved a dot and football and many other sports games to play.

my brother always used to get chemistry sets for christmas there was one year he tried to make an explosive experiment.he managed to do it but burn't a hole in his carpet and had to move his bed around to hide the burn mark.my mum found out about it when the bed was virtually up against the door.

EVERYone had 'clackers' - sure they would be banned these days!! Also had a Tressy doll and a Space Hopper.

So many memories here! My children also had Playpeople, - and built lots of building site set ups where people fell of ladders etc.and the ambulance whipped them off to 'hospital' where younger sister was in control of all the doctors and nurses. The girls had Wuzzles, - peculiar brightly coloured combination animals. I think theirs were called Rhinokey and Eleroo. Younger daughter had Sylvanian families and all their kit, bakery, school room, windmill, country cottage. It's all here somewhere waiting for them to move out and take it with them.

my son born 76 played with cars and lego mostly and my daughter born 78 played with cindy and barbie dolls, she also had a lolo ball and roller skates care bears and my little pony. jenny

Hi - I saw on a programme about 3 weeks ago about toys from the 70 and 80's my little pony was on it and they said that some of these in a box and in good condition are worth around £400.00 so keep hunting!!!! My sister had a few of them but I asked Mum and she said that the boxs went in the bin. I also had a Basil Brush teddy in the 70's and that is in good condition and someone us that is worth about £300ish. I can see a scramble already of people rooting the attic!! Lisa

My lot, the females included were all for star war figures,which are all still up in the loft.The only other things they were interested in was their bikes ,they used to drag the missus all the way to the coast on them in the holidays ,i was at work [thank you lord] Fred.

My son born 1980 loved He Man toys, thunder cats, transformers and there was a horrible slimy thing you threw at the wall and it slithered down!! My daughter loved my little pony, care bears and her dolls and pram, for the life of me I can't remember the other toys, oh well. Lynda

Hi all, You must think that this is now some kind of nutter on here, but you have just made me think about all the games we used to play as kids which our own kids don't. I have 2 kids, one girl almost 12, and my son is almost 4 1/2. My kids were born in Essex, though my Husband and I are both Scots. We now live in New York. I recently tried to show my daughter how to play balls. You remember,a good bit of wall with no holes. I can't even think how to describe the rhymes we had for playing! But didn't we play for hours on end. Unless we get out there and show them how to do it, they will be lost for ever. Chinese Ropes, Balls, Skipping and Cawing (Is that how you spell it!), Exchanging Scraps. We have to do something about the pre-occupation with Play Stations and kids telly. Hi All, I've just related the story of my brother's chopper but does anyone remember the doll, Mary- Make up. I always wanted a Barbie doll,( were talking mid sixties here,) They were expensive then. Instead, I got a Mary Make Up. None of my friends had evey heard of her, neither had I. To this day, I have never found anyone who had a Mary Make up. Was this doll, a figment of my imagination? Can someone please own up to at least having HEARD of his doll. Christine.

Hi Lisa, I remember my brother getting a chopper for Christmas. My parents had bought it a bit before Christmas, and had it delivered to my grandmothers. After we were in bed, my grandmother had brought it over and my parents and her were enjoying a pre-christmas drink, when the tyre exploded. Apparently, due to the troubles in Ireland at the time, they thought a bomb had exploded outside, (we lived in Scotland!). Everyone hit the floor, expecting the worst. Can you imagine trying to repair a burst Tyre in the middle of the night , on Christmas Eve, before we woke up. They did it, and to this day, I don't think my brother Knows what happened. One of the toys I remember was Escalado, a horse racing game. I loved that. We used to have 'seasons' for playing different things. There's be swapping paper scraps, then playing with two balls against a wall, roller skates, skipping ropes, elastics and another form of that we called chinese ropes. I remember my Dad making my brother and I stilts, they were great. My favourite dolls were Tressy, like Barbie but her hair grew and Sally Happy Talk. I remember my brother getting Evil Keneival, you wound him up and he could do 'stunt jumps' One that I still have is a Hanimex Pong Game. You play it through the T.V. My kids could hardly beleive we used to get excited playing it! Christine
