I have had my gardening books this afternoon as i have fruit on my passion flower but can find no information on it. Can we eat the fruit and how do i know when it is ripe? |

Think the fruit should look yellow/orange when ripe, I thought they were all edible, but apparently some varieties are not. |

I used to grow Passion fruit in Africa and we could eat the fruit, but have a feeling that you need a lot of sun to ripen the fruit. Sylvia |

Hi Melanie, The passion fruit or more commonly know as the granadilla grows on a vine. The flower is white in colour and when closes forms a small green round shape which grows as big as the size of a golf ball. The fruit has a smooth skin and changes colour, black/bluish. It will begin to shrivel up and that is when it is ripe. It is delicious and has a sweet tangy taste. The first one I grew I accidently killed while painting the walls. The second one was just the flower kind that did not bear fruit. I hope this helps. Lindy;-) |

we used to have the type (in Nairobi) Lindy was talking about which we called grenadilla, purple/black, but there is also the orange/yellow sort which we called passion fruit, my sons garden in Herts grows this type |
