I met my partner at work. He no longer works there which I'm glad about because I think office romances can get a bit tricky. My ex met his new partner on the internet and my sister met her husband through CB radio and married six months later. Mel

Strump He could have had his wife's body in the boot of the car! Perhaps I've been watching too many Crimewatch Series!! Sylvia

Yes, I think I'm a fairly good judge of character too, and can generally build up a picture of someone through the way that they express them selves online. When I say I met my wife through more traditional means, I mean I met her in the flesh (so to speak lol). The internet wasn't quite so prevalent 14 years ago ;)

No. I don't think it had been invented back then. We met at a party. Virtually all my friends met their partners at parties, often university or college parties. Helen

Paul, what's a more "traditional" way of meeting somebody? Yes, I agree, you do have to be careful, but I think I can judge people by the way they write. I've changed my house twice with a family in Scotland, and chose the people at random from their letters. I am going to do it again next year. Actually through internet this time! It's a wonderful way of having a holiday with little cost. Sylvia

No, I met my wife through a more traditional manner, but I do have several friends who have met partners online. My best friend met her husband online and they've been happily married for a few years now and are expecting their second child. I know of a few other couples who've met via "chat" sites and who've recently married. In theory it's so successful because you can get to know someone's personality well online without making judgements based purely on looks etc (and lets be honest, we all do it). There's been lots of bad press abut the internet, how it's abused by paedopholes, people havign affairs etc, but so long as you're careful, and don't automatically trust everything that's told you (take your time to build trust) I think it's a marvellous tool.

Strump, A bit of a whirlwind romance. A bit like mine. I met mine somewhere around October November and by Xmas he had asked me to marry him. Not one for making quick decisions, I waited until I'd met his family. We actually had our engagement party with his family in Rotterdam the following July and the year after married in London. Next year we will have been married 50 years.

You can probably get to know more of them via e-mail than you would if you met at a party.

I have had a couple of relationships from people that i hhave met online. So long as you are careful and meet in very public places and possibly get a mate to be some where near there is nothing wrong with it.

From what I've heard. because everybody is so busy, the internet is the place to find a partner. Why not? Sylvia

I didn't, but a friend of ours met his current partner via the Internet after the death of his wife in a tragic accident. They are still together, 4 years on!

I met my husband through a Lonely Hearts column in a local newspaper. I only read it for a laugh ... be warned! My late father was feeling very low after Mum died, they were first girlfriend and boyfriend and devoted to each other. My brother and I bought him a modem, and showed him Hard rock cafe so he could chat in the nights when he couldn't sleep. Imagine our surprise when he said he'd met a lady from Wisconsin ( Dad lived in Cardiff). They eventually got engaged but sadly Dad died before they were able to marry. I firmly believe it gave him a new lease of life for the few years between bereavement and when he died. He was only in his early 60's. xxx A

My husband and I met when he was 21 and I was 19, long before the internet was invented, but we didn't 'get together' until nearly 30 years later when he wrote to me from the USA and we then corresponded daily via email. So we 'met again' after a fashion and established ourselves as a couple on the internet, you might say. Our oldest boy is about to marry a girl he met through an internet dating agency, though.

In these modern times I believe it is the trend to make contacts via the internet. My ex son-in-law met his wife on the internet and another young girl I know met her boyfriend. They have been dating 2 years now. Sylvia
